I agree with walk. I think EC pushed Josh and rode him hard to improve and when the chips were finally all in Josh's hand he decided to cash in. I truly believe that if our backcourt depth was normal the last two seasons Josh plays 15-18 minutes a game, comes along nicely and finds himself being encouraged by EC, not pushed, and enters his junior year excited about his opportunity. The 35 mpg were way above Josh's skill level for most of his two years and that makes you grow up fast, too fast apparently in Josh's case. No crime in that, just is what it is. Well said. I think EC's style, like many emotional coaches, will always rub some kids the wromg way. As much as we have heard how much players like Rakim Sanders, Cotton and Henton love Cooley, there will be others who don't. I think Fortune and Coleman may have fell into that category. Both left w/o the threat of lack of playing time so perhaps the coaching style just didn't suit them. Then again, maybe PC as a school was not what they expected. But it seems most kids are attracted to the coach/staff more than the actual school these days In the business world, we often see people change jobs because they couldn't or wouldn't get along w their boss.

As we all know, Josh made a TON of mistakes out there and Cooley rode him hard. He improved over the year and just maybe Josh thought he had become something special. We really have no idea. Josh should turn out to be a decent player over the next 3 years with one year sitting down. Good luck to him-he is a good kid who was young and eager.

100 % opinion....no different than the all the other speculation that goes on around here....I disagree with Rick a little in that if Austin and Ledo were around for the last 2 seasons, josh is getting a max of 10 minutes per game and would have had several under 5 minute games....I figured he be gone by now...just thought we'd have Austin on the roster.....

Thanks for the clarification Walk.
I also agree with a Rock as to some just not able to handle being pushed to be all that Ed wanted him to be.

Undercover Friar undercoverfriar 14h Although still unknown, it appears Fortune's reason for transfer may not have been to be closer to home. #pcbb Given Cooley's public comments that Josh was never meant to be more than a bench player, and the fanbase's talk of needing someone to start at the 2g position every offseason since Josh got here, I don't necessarily blame him for thinking hes under appreciated and should look elsewhere. Sure, he's gotten 30 minutes per game every year and was slated for the same thing next year too, but it must be grating to constantly feel like you're "Plan B" even after having a good season and being poised for a breakout. Most friar fans I've talked to have been really hard on Josh, and many weren't very supportive of him at all before the St. Johns game at MSG last year. Even after that, I saw a lot of people online talking about how Jalen Lindsey would start at the 2 over Fortune. Wasn't it sometime during the BET that Cooley publicly stated that Josh was intended to be the "9th man" this year? I don't mean to indict Ed for that comment...I'm sure he was simply stating the truth in a very "Boeheimesque" fashion. Regardless, I can see how all of this adds up to a kid feeling a bit unwanted after two years of sweat and tears. Cooley's recent comments to Matt Norlander about needing a new PG reminded me of his comments back in the day about Josh Fortune's role on the team after Ledo, Dunn, Austin, etc. could not play.

This thread from long ago was created when many of us we’re different folks. It’s unflattering to the old Walk and does not reflect his renaissance as his recent post demonstrates which I called brilliant.
Accordingly I herewith ask any Mods who have not gone to bed already to lock it up. We are not here to embarrass posters....actually we need every one we presently have here.
LOL
Blessings

How is that dex? Especially with our "no can do wrong coach" making those comments about 3PGs that he recruited? 71 was a fraud during the keno years....blairsmom is a biiiiitch...
