www.providencejournal.com/sports/content/20140523-pcs-josh-fortune-to-transfer.eceBy Kevin McNamara PROVIDENCE – Josh Fortune, a sophomore and two-year starter at Providence College, has decided to transfer. It is unclear where Fortune wants to jump to but he’d reportedly like to play closer to his home in Virginia. Fortune started 18 games as a freshman at PC and averaged 5.5 points. His role expanded and he started every game this past season and by the end of the year was a valuable shooting weapon. He averaged 8.4 points and hit 56 threes.

Wow. Our thin backcourt just got thinner. I'd imaging that Lindsay or Harris will be asked to slide over to the 2, unless there's an impact prospect ready to sign up. We're going to miss Josh's production from behind the arc.

Maybe a three-way deal with ODU sending their Sr. off-guard to BC and receiving Forturne in return. I'm assuming a ill family member isn't involved so he has to sit out 14-15. So what does Ed get?
Coaches do end-of-year player evaluations and talk to their guys. My guess??? is Fortne didn't like what he heard. Cooley may have told him to expect a challenge for his position his Jr. year. Maybe he didn't want to hear that? That or maybe Dana from Burrillville told him she wasn't interested (inside reference).

Welcome to the annual Friar spring roster attrition derby. Hold on to your hat everyone, we're about to watch another season dented by a thin backcourt. Maddening.

Please don't attribute this to the Friars. Its the fickle players of today. Over 510 transfers so far. What sticks about this one is that there is very little time to react. We have passed on a ton of candidates because they were shooting guards not point guards. Even if we were to be so lucky as to land Antoine Mason, he doesn't completely fill the need, since he's a slasher and not a shooter. Arghhh!!

I would also remind everyone that the pg from Compton didn't sign a NLI. Not that I expect him to get cold feet--from 3000m away-- but this isn't done until Sept and he's on Smith Hill.
As an aside I wish Cooley didn't do things through the hostile projo.

No issue. It's that he's free to do anything he wants and if he's home I wouldn't be surprised if he's still being recruited.

I was expecting good things from him next season.

Well this is a shocker considering the ample PT he has enjoyed and would certainly be getting next season. Agree with theinfoman that the transfer bug is rampant. Cooley and staff now have to scramble big time to try to cover the glaring need this departure brings...must say like most here I am truly disappointed

Any speculation on destination?
Does Buzz need a SG at Virginia Tech?

with ODU sending their Sr. off-guard to BC " ---------------------------------------------------- ODU just had their "2" graduate and commit to BC. Whether this was a factor with Fortune IDK but it could be his next program. BC also supposedly interested in A.Mason with 1 Ship left for them.
