Yeah Cooley was too tough for a kid that has a mom in the military and a dad retired military and a brother in military school. He wanted to play in a offense more tailored to his shooting skills. PC offense is not exactly a juggernaut. It's half court sets everyone stands around and waits for someone to go one on one when the shot clock is running out. Josh knows Harris and Henton will be the first 2 options on offense. There is also issues with Cooley and others.

Scoot..nothing you say makes sense. The flex offense that they ran very well last year is nothing like what you wrote...it is obvious you have an axe to grind on this one.
Your opinion here is simply discarded by everyone.

Not sure I would have put up with my mom speaking for me when I was a 20 year old man, but it seems like a lot of these young men are okay with it. To each his own, I guess.

Only on message boards maybe, never that I saw at actual games. If a kid gets ticked about social media and message board criticism then he better not transfer anywhere in Div 1.

Don't know Scoot from a hole in the wall....but I've heard rumours about some of the guys not exactly loving the new small body (big head??) Ed.....
I didn't understand why Ed would talk about "9th option" stuff about a junior starter, but Ed's had a lot of success quickly, and more than one local writer thinks he has gotten a big ego lately. Kids see that?? Not sure, but that's the rumour

The 9th option is being taken out of context, IHO... EC was using it as a compliment to show how much the kid had grown as a player compared to the beginning of the season.
....gotta love friartown...

From Day One we all knew Ed's potential Kryptonite was his emotional personality. Ironically, same thing that makes him a huge success. He won't be the right flavor for every kid.

...i think mrs blair may have finally gotten one right....
...don't know mike....could easily be taken as "the only reason you are playing is b/c of injuries and suspension...and now i'm going recruit a 5yr sr who wants to transfer to get more exposure to the nba (sorry A...the minutes split had to be pro mason - at least on the recruiting front)...
i never heard/read anything about a transfer until the mason recruitment started...if others did, i'm sure ed did as well...
if fairness to josh, if he truely wants to handle the ball more to play at the next level (this will not happen in 1 million years), he showed he could do it in the st johns game...would i trust him for 5-10 mins every game? no.....So maybe it's just time to move...ive not seen anything about wanting a bigger program either........

Josh dad was my supervisor in the Air Force so I may know what happened but that is not for me to disclose. I do not think be will ever publicly talk about his reason to leave but it was in his best interest to leave. Josh stepped in when Cooley needed a body badly and did a pretty good job starting for 2 years. Maybe he had to always look over his shoulder because Cooley was always looking for a better guy to replace him. Maybe the ship Cooley runs is not as tight as you think. Cooley has not said a word about this entire thing. He was also a keno Davis recruit.

It was reported by those who attended the post season banquet that Cooley was complimentary toward Josh and said that he wished he would shoot more. This is consistent with statements Cooley made to tv commenators down the stretch. I don't think this sounds like a coach who is down on a player. If there were other personality conflicts behind the scene, maybe ScootJ knows more than we do, but from a strictly basketball perspective Josh's decision to give up a starting job on a Big East team makes little sense to me.
I also agree that Cooley's 8th or 9th man comment was completely taken out of context if it was interpreted by Josh or his people as a snub. In the euphoria of the moment after winning the Big East championship, Cooley was trying to say how far Josh had come this year and what a contribution to the victory he had made.

PC does not win the BE or go to the NCAA's without Fortune. I would like to thank him for that and wish him well wherever he winds up. I hope he finds a school where he can be happy and successful. I am sorry to see him leave. He was a good player and represented Providence well.

Scootj?
Figured you had a personal connection to Josh and family. Think we all appreciate, and even respect your take on Josh’s situation – even as many here disagree with some of your basketball analysis.
Fair enough?
Hey, Josh did a good job while here as a Friar under some tough situations having to step right in and play major minutes. And yes, some of the fans were tough on him, perhaps unfairly given all he was asked to do and with little preparation. He also improved his game as a result of those major minutes AND, I dare say, the coaching he received.
As greyfriar is pointing out, strictly from a basketball standpoint, most of us, as fans, see his decision as unwise given his improvement and opportunity to further develop his game here at PC as an upperclassman. All indications we have as fans is that Cooley does run a fairly tight ship but some players like Josh, and before him Gerard Coleman, simply don't like where that ship is heading...so they depart. Coleman's move to Gonzaga proved to be fruitless and now he will most likely rap up his playing career at a lesser program. Some here are actually concerned that Josh may end up in a similar situation - who knows?
Certainly, we all know there is “more” to the story – there always is…
And good for you if you have that inside scoop - by all means do keep it to yourself because it isn't for you to disclose. He decided to go and take his game elsewhere so most wish him well even if we think his decision was foolish.
I was at the team banquet – so were Josh’s brother and dad and they along with over 500 others heard Ed Cooley gushing in his praise for Josh. If there were other issues between the two of them and he saw that praise from his coach as being too little too late then so be it…
BTW, the military thing is fine to mention but hardly relevant - lot's of vets posting here and there among the Friar fan base. FYI, PC has honored veterans to long standing ovations at every basketball game. The local press, Coach Cooley and the college at large also showed great respect for Josh's family throughout his time here at PC.
*
As for Josh being a Keno Error recruit? Well that's something you might want to downplay because implying that as having any relevance to his departure from Friar Town is beyond ludicrous.

Inside the PD: Josh Fortune is planning his next move 3:44 p.m. EDT, June 12, 2014 www.dailypress.com/sports/highschool/inside-the-pd-blog/dp-inside-the-pd-josh-fortune-is-planning-his-next-move-20140612,0,3862122.post Former Kecoughtan star Josh Fortune, who started every game in Providence's Big East championship run, is planning his next move after deciding to transfer. Angela Fortune, Josh's mother, said her son will begin taking visits next week. First up will be either Colorado or Valparaiso, both of which have offered scholarships. Also in the mix, according to Angela Fortune, are California, Minnesota, Dayton and Purdue.
She said Virginia also expressed interest in her son, but that the Cavaliers have no scholarship to offer at this point. In what the Providence Journal described as "a puzzling development," Fortune decided to transfer last month. It came as a surprise to Friar followers because Fortune averaged 33 minutes a game. He averaged 8.4 points a game and scored a career-high 24 in a Big East quarterfinal win over St. John's. At the team's banquet in April, he was named Providence's Most Improved Player. But Angela Fortune said her son felt the need for a fresh start. "Honestly, it was for professional reasons," she said. "He believes it's in his best interest to transfer to find, in his words, 'an environment conducive to my academic, athletic and social growth.'
"When he made the decision, there were several schools he was looking at. Now, a lot of schools are actually interested in him. And we're in the process of setting up visits."
