Thought MAL would be way ahead of where he is now. Like Watson on offense, his defense and rebounding I thought would be better.

Maybe the ‘below expectations’ reality of this years class was inevitable. Veteran returning roster, Holt out, KC firmly the backcourt alpha dog and so on. Not a lot of room to work through stuff for the frosh. White and Diallo have made nice sophomore jumps this season, maybe we get that out of MAL and Watson next year.

Diallo was borderline our best player last year....Watson exactly what I expected...MAL less than I expected although the reports were out with his shooting.....and as rock said, we have a program now. This isn't curry, McDermott, Weyme walking into starter minutes...I bet if our frosh were playing 25 min we'd be pointing to their numbers thinking we were on our way and not realizing the good teams have better talent riding pine...

I was expecting MAL to come in and basically play 25-30 minutes and do a little if everything and I thought Nate would be grabbing 6-7 boards to go along with 6-8 points. Don't ask me why because I've never seen either play before arriving here. Those damn rankings..

Below expectations. I expected MAL to be a reliable back-up PG and spell KC or Alpha for 10-15MPG. Expected Watson to be able to score and rebound for 10-15MPG. I never have to high of expectations for incoming frosh, but MAL and Watson have been below expectations, even mediocre expectations. Hopefully they continue to learn and improve, if not by season's end, but for next year.

I’d say Watson met expectations for me. I assumed he’d be a much better rebounder based on his size and athleticism but he’s also a much better offensive player than I anticipated.

I was at one of the two GC games last year and Nate didn't play that much. Could've been for foul trouble but my recollection was the coach went small and was having a ton of success. I spoke to someone very familiar with that league and he said Watson would eventually be good but pretty laughed in my face when I asked about his motor...and then asked him to compare it to Michael Smith's.
I also ran into a MD coach who said they'd looked at him but weren't all in b/c they had someone else lined up. Said Cooley starting to make a mark down here but Jay Wright essentially has the local team for the catholic league kids.

Unfair question to ask...
Not many players that come through have the same motor as Michael Smith. An animal on the backboards!!!

Plenty of guys produce as freshman, not just Smith. Especially Top 50s.

My recollection is that Michael Smith was a prop 48 and DNP as a frosh but I could be wrong...perhaps it was a severe common cold. But I have a serious question for any of the learned fans here: What would the Friars have looked like if Smith did play as a Frosh?
