That's the sense I'm getting from a few posters as well but FWIW it's preposterous. His play has nothing to do with Cartright and all to do with his raw/rustiness. All the stretched out hype surrounding Kris the last few months was really the last thing he needed at this point in his career. He is a big time athlete but at this point still very raw and very rusty. I really think all the talk of him being one of the best guards in the nation and possibly bolting early for the draft was way premature. Even now I'm not sure what people were basing those wild predictions on. I think his breakout season will be next year, not this one. Though I still think we will see a much better player come February than we are seeing now. This was the case his frosh season as well. His numbers got better & better with the more basketball he played.

I hope you're right HM, also I agree generally with your assessment. I think the 'going pro' stuff is based on his size, athleticism, defensive ability and what we've seen in flashes when he's on. Last year down in the Paradise Jam he changed the entire dynamic for the better when he was out there. But I agree he hasn't shown it enough yet, due to his injuries. Let's see him do that for a season before we put him in the lottery.
But I agree right now he is not ready even for the college game let alone pros. I am going to remain optimistic on him until I've seen no improvement game to game....but I don't think his game is playing off the ball. Let's see how he does over the next week. Lots of tests to come.

Holy....bullock being option #3 means Harris or henton is on the bench....it does not solve the backcourt scoring....now I'll go with the Cartwright being able to hit 3s as the reason he played so much b/c that's the only way he and Dunn can be on the floor at the same time....Cartwrights line was fine....especially for a frosh....
...I don't how Lindsey helps out the D if opposing guards can handle the ball...
...lamomba was puzzling....made a great play and didn't see the floor....

Box says 9,599 for attendance, that's really disappointing to me. Gosh it looked more than that. Place seats 12,500 right? No way did I suspect 3k empty seats.

I felt comfortable Cartwright had the ball. Only 2 T/O's vs 5-asts in 34-min is a good line for a PG, let alone a 1st game frosh. Defense needs improvement. Was greatly surprised at Lindsey and Lomomba sitting as much as they did, especially in second half. Harris can definitely score, but forced way too much especially in the 1st half. Desrosiers seems to be the same player as last year.
Interesting strategy employed by Cooley in the waning minutes by having freshman Cartwright, then Bentil inbound the ball, yet it worked. I agree with HM above, Dunn showed rust and the same guy I've seen in the past.
Overall, I'm optimistic. Worried about Navy and Fla. St. however.

ND beat Navy today by 29
Grant, Connaughton and Auguste getting it done....different team with Grant back this year.
Umass overcame a 13 pt deficit in 1st half to go on and thrash BC by around 12 today. They wore Hanlon out.
Umass game will be a lot tougher than I thought after watching them today. Contain Hanlon and you beat BC
Part of life is accepting the things you can't change no matter how much you would like to
Honestly...Tyler is gonna mess-up 2 or 3 or 4 times per game and the Tyler watchers will notice and bemoan each one.
He and Henton better shoot for crice sakes...at least until we see the real Dunn and the frosh get it going.
In time young Cartwright will get it defensively...to say his D needs to improve is an under-statement.
As Hassett said last night, Singletary owned him. Accordingly, I too thought Junior would get more minutes. Raises an eyebrow, ha.
When Dunn de-rusts and Jalen's finger heals, I suspect they will see lots of minutes as the backcourt tandem.
Oh and BTW, it doesn't matter now but be sure Bullock was going to see some time at the 2 ...and that's not an opinion.
So friends fasten your seatbelts and prepare for turbulence for awhile and, for crice sakes, enjoy watching the frosh grow as players...it's fun

There's 2 separate points, one which you bring up Rock about whether experience matters or not, or is a valid excuse for mistakes or losing. You don't seem to think so. I disagree with you, but that's cool. I'd also point out the comment about us being young and inexperienced applies for the whole season going forward, not just against Albany. Kentucky is the exception to the rule, older teams make less mistakes and win more on average. The second point is whether or not we are in fact young/inexperienced which we are, 10 underclassman, 3 upper classman equals young inexperienced team. Fact. The fault of being young/inexperienced ("10 underclassmen" - kinda of a bullshit bingo stat IMO) falls on who? The same staff that must now be given a pass until said roster of young/inexperienced gets older/maturer? Nice gig if you can get it, I'd say. And against what, a playing field that doesn't itself have many of the same limitations and issues? No time for excuses in my book and honestly, none needed. We won and will have a successful season by all accounts, it just won't come in a nice straight line. Bumps will happen and I, for one, will not credit those bumps to youth or inexperienced, less the opposing team remind me they suffer from the same.

Walk - Some had Bullock penciled in as our starting 2-Guard coming out of the Italy Trip. That being the case, it was conceivable that Bullock, Harris and Henton might be on the court together

I actually just watched the game so I figured I would chime in as well. First the positives 1. Cartwright will be good even if he missed some shots. He isn't afraid to take big shots and is aggressive. 2. Bentil will be good as well. 3. Harris and Henton look like they are ready to lead after being the 3rd and 4th options last year. 4. Lomomba is a solid addition. 5. Lindsey is going to be ok too. He had some good looks that went in and came out and I can see him knocking those down later in the year. 6. We won! Negatives 1. Derosiers doesn't look like he has improved at all. 2. Dunn is not a 2 guard but I think he is too good to come off of the bench and Cartwright is giving more than the other candidates at guard. 3. Rebounding is still a concern.

Just re-watched the tape. Given Cartwright is a freshman, but OMG, he couldn't guard anyone with feet last night. I'm sure he's had a good time today going over this with Cooley.
The two things that stand out are: 1. All the easy misses and some rushed, forced offense. 2. God awful defense...Cartwright was a doormat.

Sure 82... He was recruited as a power forward and is now a 2grd......and next year we'll excuse his outside shooting as rust....

He isn't afraid to take big shots and is aggressive.....he should be a very good 4 yr player....I don't see the minutes from last night though... 2. Bentil will be good as well...agree stud.. 3. Harris and Henton look like they are ready to lead after being the 3rd and 4th options last year....huge difference between 1 and 2..... The bigger drop off being with options 3 and 4 this year...Carson no O....Dunn no O... 4. Lomomba is a solid addition....not sure how anyone can make that comment after last night... 5. Lindsey is going to be ok too. He had some good looks that went in and came out and I can see him knocking those down later in the year...may be true...not after last night though... 6. We won! Junior didn't kill us last night. Sure he wasn't scoring but he wasn't giving up points either. The lack of defense and rebounding on a whole almost cost this game. Albany is a decent team but this is a game that we probably should have won by 15 or more if we hit our free throws and some of the bunnies we missed. A win is a win so I will take it.

..i'm not sure how anyone can make any assessment on jr after that game....made a nice play and got benched.... I'm not sure how anyone can make any assessments after 1 gane. PC was a good rebounding team last year. I think they will be a better rebounding team this year. The team returns their best rebounder. They will probably play less zone which usually improves rebounding and the addition of Dunn as well as the size of Bentil and Linsey should offset Batts who got 7 per game.
