I'm with you Walk. When Cartwright is out getting his rest, we should be pressing 100% of the time. Let the group go balls to the wall for 3 or 4 minutes, than get them out. Our half court sets, while generally mediocre, are terrible when he's not in the game. So why not try to create some offense from you defense?

Soccer footwork doesn't translate as well to basketball as it does for american football. The box out/protect the ball stuff does translate however. Now if Bentil was a ballroom dancer, I'd buy it. Hakeem Olajuwon was unavailable for comment.

Yea, I absolutely think Bentil's soccer background helped him develop as an athlete.
And yes to pressing more!!

Spot on Walk...there I was yelling my head off Saturday to cripple Simon with the press and stugots.
Our players on the bench would love to press agressively when KC is out just to get a basket for crice sakes.

Regarding the scoring droughts, I wonder if Keno would be interested in coming back as an assistant? An offensive coordinator, if you will. Thoughts?

With 11:11 to go yesterday, Rodney Bullock got a basket. The next hoop didn't come until 1:35 to go when Cartwright hit a 3. It’s coaching. In the KMac article, Watson shot 60% in BE play. He took 5 shots yesterday. During that run he didn’t really see the ball. We should be looking to feed him every time down the floor IMHO. When the doubles come someone has to make a nice cut and if Nate can start hitting those cutters.....then we might have something

Before he starts hitting cutters, he'll have to be looking for cutters. Watson has 4 assists this year in 424 minutes played - though he logged 1 assist in 3 of his last 5 games. Defenses will bring extra bodies at Watson a lot next year, so hope he works on this part of his game in the off-season. Improve the passing and rebounding and he could be all Big East next year!

Yea, I absolutely think Bentil's soccer background helped him develop as an athlete. And yes to pressing more!! Without a doubt soccer helps with foot work and so does martial arts. An athlete that participates in those two sports will more than likely be more nimble and also have better use of their feet/legs than an athlete that never has.

I know but a lot of that has to do with him getting bottled up as soon as he puts the ball down. The development in his passing not only depends on his ability but his teammates ability to recognize the doubles and make good cuts so he has the options for what should be pretty simple passes. The team can't just throw it down to him and stand around. Definitely something the staff is probably on top of and working at in practice.

I wish we would press more as well but there may be a reason. One problem with us pressing is the last line of defense. We have lots of fouls to give at the guard position but sometimes w a press the fouls are committed by the 5 protecting the rim. Young/Watson always seem to be playing w 3 or 4 fouls in the 2nd half. If the opponent plays to score against the press, we may quickly pick up fouls at the back end on drives to the rim.

We seems to play with a small lineup in the 2nd half most of the time anyway, so not sure how much Watson/Young fouls play in. Press.

normally I'd agree 71 but guards have so much trouble getting the ball over 1/2 court, I think it'd be a good option. Doesn't really matter. Cooley doesn't play fast.
