Let's see now he can't shoot and Now he can't pass Conclusion: Don't renew MAL's ship Man Of Spectacular mis-Information Despite his struggles from the line( which improved some late Sunday), I was hoping MAL would keep the ball and drive the lane the last possession. I liked him better than anyone on the floor to score in the lane or get fouled. Since we only needed 1 point, I felt he would get one FT if fouled. instead the ball went to Jackson who drove and either tried a backboard pass to Bullock or he made an awful lunging layup shot from 8'. MAL will be fine as the year goes on. It is interesting that EC planned to have him come in and play PG and moves Kyron to the 2 during the OC games. Most freshman PG come in shooting first since that is what they did in AAU. There probably would have been less pressure letting MAL play the 2 and gradually move him to PG. But I assume Coach feels he is better learning the PG role quickly since White was not a great option as a backup at PG. Hopefully we see more movement against Houston. It seems like every trip late on Sunday was a screen for MAL and let him create. I think Mal was more a distributor and driver to the basket in AAU and prep and less of a shooter since he had plenty of teammates who could put it in the basket on those teams. He's been hampered by players standing around and not moving/cutting like they did in first few games. Everyone has contributed to the terrible TOs stats of late. Going to be a long BE season if this is not fixed. Not looking forward to any long term loss of Kyron either, despite what many think of him, his experience at running a team will be tough to get over.

Let's see now he can't shoot and Now he can't pass Conclusion: Don't renew MAL's ship Man Of Spectacular mis-Information No no no. It's not that he can't pass. It's that he doesn't do it often enough. He's a dribble-drive spectacular, but he goes for the hoop too often and always with his right hand, btw. We need 7+ assists per game from him and the way to do that is to pass the ball more often. The coincidental effect would be to make less defenders converge on him, which in turn will make the shots that he does take more clean. He's been hampered by players standing around and not moving/cutting like they did in first few games. Outstanding observation. In fact its the general problem with this team. They're playing like they have flat tires on both offense and defense.

I was going to call for both your resignations at FTH but thefriarman has redeemed himself a little with his post.
If you want more passing around the perimeter and the other mates just giving it back to MAL then watch tape of the TW era with Donnie McGrath Infoman.
The only reason he's penetrating into traffic is because the time clock runs down because, as friarman points out, the other guys make half-assed cuts, half-assed picks, half-assed screens and hardly no ball screens. Friar71 reminds you that the kid is just getting his feet wet and it ain't friggin easy when you have Alpha, Maliek and KC either out or hobbled...And Young and Jackson (until Sunday) as No Shows. Rodney is Rodney and Jalen is Jalen offensively. That brings us to Nate who looked good against that 6'-7" guy looking up to him...I think he will be a terrific player but he better start running up and down the court with some damn urgency...he shouldn't be tired with his ltd mins and early in the year. Oh and yeah my arse knows it gets much easier for MAL when he starts hitting J's with some consistency but that may take awhile...it sure did for KC btw. And another thing If you want those lousy friggin 7 assists howsabout MAL's mates hitting some shots? Drew alone probably cost him 4 assists.
I'm just hoping that Big Ed stays cool and keeps motivating MAL and Nate to improve until the calvary arrives. VERY IMPORTANT
Based on the above assessment riddle me this: How does this team win a basketball game with Alpha, Maliek and KC either Out or Hobbled?

71, I thought that Malik White was one of the nicer surprises this season before he went down with what appeared to be a pretty painful knee injury.
I like MAL, but I thought that White was the better player this season and I also think that White plays with a level of intensity that many around here are craving for right now.

..... then watch tape of the TW era with Donnie McGrath Infoman. No thank you. And I do appreciate MAL's north-south abilities. The only reason he's penetrating into traffic is because the time clock runs down because, as friarman points out, the other guys make half-assed cuts, half-assed picks, half-assed screens and hardly no ball screens. I admit to not actually noticing the cause and effect relationship you point out here. What you point out is often a chemistry issue. I hope that is not the cause of our malaise. That brings us to Nate who looked good against that 6'-7" guy looking up to him...I think he will be a terrific player but he better start running up and down the court with some damn urgency...he shouldn't be tired with his ltd mins and early in the year. Actually, he didn't do half bad against Stony Brook's off-the-bench version of Ray Hall either. But there is no excuse for lack of urgency...especially when you're behind. If you want those lousy friggin 7 assists hows about MAL's mates hitting some shots? Drew alone probably cost him 4 assists. Okay, I admit that what you say is true. Take out Nate Watson, and the rest of the team shot 28.9% Based on the above assessment riddle me this: How does this team win a basketball game with Alpha, Maliek and KC either Out or Hobbled? Let's not leave out Emmitt Holt either. Can you turn off your virtual water-boarding machine now?

But I think heading in to the season, the coaching staff slotted him more into the 2 guard spot behind Jackson and he played really well there until he got hurt. There was also one game where he played more point guard maybe due to foul trouble.

Answer: It doesn't: unless the press works and they come from behind and get a call with 0.6 seconds remaining on the clock to send a Friar to the free throw line in a tie game and he makes at least one out of two free throws and the Friars don't foul the opposing player on his last fraction of a second heave or send some other player to the free throw line by fouling on the inbounds pass and he doesn't hit his free throws.... It doesn't.

1. He's been hampered by players standing around and not moving/cutting like they did in first few games. 2. Everyone has contributed to the terrible TOs stats of late. 3. Going to be a long BE season if this is not fixed. 4. Not looking forward to any long term loss of Kyron either, despite what many think of him, his experience at running a team will be tough to get over. 1. I think this is a product of the crappy offense this team is struggling to execute. Two guys outside, 3 ft. apart, throwing lazy-ass bounce passes to each other. Or passing it around the perimeter until someone realizes the shot clock is running down. This causes shooters to shoot out of rhythm, or someone like MAL of Rodney to drive thru traffic. I really hate this offense. 2. Bullock has become a TO machine in this offense, but others are equally guilty with the lazy-ass passes, or driving into traffic. 3. It already is...they haven't had a decent game in a few weeks - BC was the last. The depth was our cause for optimism, but the lack of it now, along with the poor quality of play (and coaching) from almost everyone, has us doubting that this team will turn it around. I can't believe how badly this team has been executing. 4. Kyron has been part of the problem, sadly. Assuming the injury is still bothering him, he's trying to do things he did before the injury, but not pulling it off. Without him at 100%, the team struggles and seems to lose confidence in itself. And add to that...this team just plays awful defense. All of this is a recipe for games that are literally unwatchable if you like good basketball. I hate to be so negative, but I do enjoy good basketball, and this team has been awful of late.

Spoiled or not, a better product should be taking the floor. With success, comes greater expectations. Injuries or not, everyone should be disappointed. For years we were told we were young and had no depth. Now that we have 3 seniors, a 4th year junior and several sophomores who saw regular action last year, we should be better. End of story. There should be no way we need over time to beat Brown, a miracle shot to beat Belmont, a 11+ minute field goal drought against Stony Brook, or an awful loss to a bad UMASS team. Do these injuries suck, of course they do. But if your program has truly become a program, you over come that.
Pizza, soda and grinders are for mediocre teams. It's time to start eating steak, and lobster, while drinking fine scotch, and bourbon.
