I wonder how things will shake out with regard to NCAA bids. Take a look at Real Time RPI...Big east has 3rd highest average RPI amoung all conferences...
Interesting though is that the AAC has 5 teams with an RPI BELOW 187....so 5 in top 60 or so, 5 below 187...
Big East has ALL TEN in top 125....some 50 spots higher than the #6 team in AAC..
Which is better for NCAA purposes. Having 5 terrible teams to beat up on?? Or parity?

At this point, I don't see how the BE gets more than 4 teams. Same as the AAC. The difference is I see alot of NIT teams in the BE and very few in the AAC. Also, Louisville was supposed to be a national tittle contender and they don't look like an elite team now, UConn, Memphis, and Cincy are all 6-10 seed type programs, so the top of their league doesn't look all tat much better than ours.
I actually think the A10 is a better league than the AAC going forward.

Good question.
The comparison between the (new) Big East and the (former) AAC is valid, inevitable and timely. Thinking Big East will probably postpone expansion unless FOX demands it while the AAC is still in transition with the departures of Louisville and Rutgers pending after this year. Interesting is how the conference realignment craze seems to have calmed at least for now and it makes you wonder if the change in the BCS will re-start the churning or will the calm prevail?
In any event, the new Big East is here and the league launch has been solid. Critics will point out that some of the teams seem to be struggling, FOX is not ESPN, etc. but considering the enormity of this process, the transition has gone very well. Now the "how many" evals will become the focus as it should yet there is still a lot of hoops to be played as yet so who knows?
Sure you can point fingers and say the new league is but a shadow of the 'old' BE but last time I checked the ACC isn't exactly dominating the college hoops world as so many predicted.

I actually think the A10 is a better league than the AAC going forward. Hmmm. I still want to raid St. Louis + one more from the A10, do you see that league's strength being an obstacle?

Guess it comes down to money. How long is the Fox Sports deal? I do not think the BE will make as much money once they have to do a new TV deal. Timing was perfect and Fox Sports overpaid for the Big East because they needed content.

I've settled in with the 10 team conference. It's a manageable number of teams to get to know in some detail, and playing everyone home and away is very appealing too. Maybe it is in part the novelty, but I'm really looking forward to the 6 games against the "newbies". I'm not in a rush for expansion in the near term.

VCU is the team you want gotta get Shaka in the league IMO Grabbing arguably the hottest young coach in the country after losing the programs and coaches we lost would be a huge rebound

Maybe it is in part the novelty, but I'm really looking forward to the 6 games against the "newbies". I'm not in a rush for expansion in the near term. I agree about the 10-team conference and I like the idea of playing each team twice. Gives every fan base a chance to see each team. The FOX Sports 1 deal is for 12 years. So the Big East will be fine. As I look at this current AAC there will be Louisville, Memphis, Cincy, and UCONN making the tournament. I do not see any other team getting in this year without a tremendous run in conference play. So they have 4 teams. Moving forward I expect the AAC to remain a 3-4 NCAA bid league with Memphis, Cincy, and UCONN staying at the top of the league and filling up their respective OOC schedules. I look at the Big East and Villanova, Creighton, Xavier, and Georgetown are the four teams I expect to make the tournament. There will be about 3 teams entering MSG with 17/18 wins looking for a shot at 20/21 wins. Maybe 5 get in if Marquette, or St. John's or Providence can be there at 17/18 and make a run to Friday or Saturday night at MSG. Marquette has the best shot IMHO. I think the Big East will get stronger and we will see years of 6 teams getting in. I think 6/10 teams making the tournament is a great accomplishment. HOWEVER, while I enjoy the 10-team conference, I see a chance for the Big East to pounce on the opportunity to use the Midwest angle and bring in a Wichita State and then it makes even more sense to bring in Saint Louis. Wichita State is undoubtedly looking for a better situation that would allow them to play in a competitive league and be a showcase school for recruits and fans and opponents. Creighton is in Nebraska, Wichita State is in Kansas, and Saint Louis is in Missouri. It does not threaten any Big East school like a Temple for Villanova. That is just me.

It would be interesting to come back to the expansion issue after the season is concluded- to get a sense from posters as to how they thought the 10 team format worked, if expansion should be pushed, how soon, how many teams, which teams.

I think its conceivable to see the Big East grab two schools from the A-10 without affecting the conference because then the A-10 goes from 14 teams to 12 teams and that's much better than 14 to 13. In that scenario it makes sense to take Saint Louis and then either Dayton or VCU, with the preference being Shaka's Rams.
If it comes down to taking two out of three of the following finalists: VCU, Wichita State, and Saint Louis - I think the Big East wins.
I really like Wichita State. I also think VCU has shown what notoriety can do as Shaka Smart has signed 3 top100 recruits for the 2014 class. You would be bringing Wichita State into the Northeast, which is a terrific place for recruiting.
Should be a fun conversation. And it is a heck of a lot more comfortable than some past offseasons where PC and the other catholic schools were wondering if the Big East would be able to survive. It will thrive. And I think that will happen with 12 teams, IMHO.
And getting these schools says to the likes of the AAC and other conferences that football is not the end-all, be-all of college sports.
1. Providence 7. Marquette 2. G'Town 8. Creighton 3. St. John's 9. DePaul 4. Seton Hall 10. Butler 5. Villanova 11. VCU 6. Xavier 12. Wichita State
Not bad...not bad at all.

not a clue if it's a possibility but supposedly vcu thinks it has a shot at real D1 football....i imagine this eliminates them from BE expansion talk....
