Friars coming off a Sat. (scoreless) draw at Xavier. They are currently out of the BET. Two Espanol Srs. played after missing previous two games. Prov final reg season game, is Wed v. Creighton.
* The BET : with 11 pts on a 2-2-5 conference rec. the only way to gain the #6 and final position is to get a W Wed night (at home),. That would give team 14 pts and possibly eliminate CU depending on what uconn does v.Georgetown in storrs.
It could happen but is probably unlikely. Prov need 3 points to beat out CU by 1pt. That would get them to Maryland and their only chance at NCAA qualification. * Friars have scored 12 g's in 9 BE matches. Only managing draws against the BE three/four lowest teams in standings has been very costly. A season of high expectations has turned into great disappointment, same can be said for the women soccer team who also missed BET. In fact the fall sports (excluding Xctry maybe) have not been very good for the opening of the new AD's first year. Hope the winter teams bring better results. Recruiting for all Friar teams were done before Nap took over. PIZZA, SODA, GRINDERS!!!

Meanwhile on the pitch tonight the men do come through with a 4-2 victory over the Bluejays....with UCONN losing to the Hoyas, Friars clinch the last playoff spot for BET. They will play the 3rd seed in the opening round Nov. 5th on the road, which I think will be Xavier. Correction: Friars ended up 5th not 6th, so they are heading to Butler tomorrow for game 1 of the BET.

Pre Season #15 or #16? Never seemed to live up to that starting with game 1.

Team has been so good recently we expect them to be very good every year. Not so long ago this past season would haven considered to be good.

Decisive day for NCAA bound Creighton, the team Friars beat in a hard fought -though comfortable- last game of season, ran the table and won the BE with 3 straight on road. They got in the BET only because ucon lost at home to Georgetown in their finale. Obviously more to say later about Prov Program. One note: the top player from the neighborhood J. Bamgbala, appears signed to West Point!

Bluejays beat Georgetown to win Big East Championship
First time a 6th place team has gone on to win the tourney
One note, Georgetown won the regular season, they have 16 frosh and sophomores...they will continue to be formidable well into the future

Akron joining the Big East just for soccer. They have an historically good soccer program.

www.dotnews.com/2022/dot-s-buyu-milton-academy-goalie-all-america-team-pickMateo Buyu the goalkeeper committed got to the NE Prep Final game before losing in extra time on kicks. He looks barely 6'0. This program is used having guys in the 6'2 plus area the last few years but Buyu may have skills and comes from the prep ultimate in Milton Acad. Since Creighton was in Prov' losing their last game of the season at Anderson Sta a few weeks ago they have not lost since. They blitzed through the BE tourny --in which they were low seed-- and into 4 road matchups in the NCAA's after getting the auto bid. They still haven't lost and are in the Final 4this weekend. They weren't supposed to make the Big East.

Recruit for next year - Nick Washington from the South Kent School in CT. When he played for his town high school team last year (Ledyard HS in CT) he was player for the year for his part of CT.

One publication has the incoming recruiting class ranked #20 overall in the nation. This doesn't include any international players the program usually brings in right before school starts in the fall.
20. Providence
Commitments: D Brandon Marshall (Charlotte FC – No. 74), M Pearse O’Brien (Hartford Athletic – No. 110), M Andrew Bilbie (Bayside FC Bolts RI), GK Mateo Buyu (Boston Bolt), M Brian Garrepy (Bayside FC Bolts RI), D Alexi Karalis (New England Revolution), M Nick Washington (Southeast Premier)
Marshall continues to play well for the Charlotte FC Academy, training regularly with the MLS NEXT Pro squad. That sets the Big East side up well for this fall, with several top regional additions set to join the program.
