Don't believe it, dad. Things will work their way through, and MSG will remain where it stands Most likely NYC hardball negotiations. A few billion in cash to the right power brokers and democrats will ensure it stays.

Commissioner Ackerman was on the radio tonight, and said no one from Big East has spoken to UConn or anyone else about expansion. She also mentioned that everyone in the league likes the ten team, round robin format. Probably posturing. They never admit it til the ink is dry.

Kmac This Morning:
UConn back to Big East?
FanRag Sports, citing unnamed sources, reported that the Big East and UConn have held “recent discussions” about the Huskies joining the Big East for all sports except football.
While intriguing, the idea has little legs because UConn continues to have big-time football aspirations. An easy solution would be to downgrade from the FBS and leave the American Athletic Conference but the Huskies have shown no inclination toward such a move. In fact, UConn just rehired former coach Randy Edsall and would like to be admitted to a football power league like the Big 12 or ACC in the future.
Such a move doesn’t appear possible anytime soon, for various reasons. The only legitimate reason the Big East would have to ponder expansion would be if it would like to play 20 conference games, like the ACC will do in two years. Currently the basketball coaches are big fans of the 18-game, double round-robin schedule.
“Our comment is that there have been no discussions,” said Big East associate commissioner John Paquette. “That’s all we are going to say about it. Nothing is new.”

It is so. Coming in for all sports except their national powerhouse football program. BE teams would have a 20 game schedule and the TV contract would be adjusted. Fox would like to see UConn come back. BE tournament attendance will be bolstered. Hey, they've won 4 national titles over the last 20 years! So, hold your noses and welcome back your long lost brethren.

Venerable, I try to make it a practice to welcome new posters. But I have to admit, after your "hold your noses and welcome back your long lost brethren" post, all I can say is that you've already worn out your welcome on your very first post. Congratulations are in order. You've set a record.

Both parties deny discussions with the other yet someone is fueling the speculation that's being reported in the rags. It feels as though a Lobbyist's been engaged by one of the parties...
So here's my uninformed take: UConn's overt attempts at wearing the proverbial red dress have been spurned enough times by the "P5", that I would pin this on someone that they've retained, With what motivation you might ask? The University Brass are attempting to create a sense of urgency that prompts one of the Conferences to pull the trigger and accept the Huskies. Suspecting that they'd like their basketball brand to pull the fledgling football program along for the ride, I would guess UConn would still favor one of the "P5" to come courting, sooner rather than later.
If that doesn't prove effective, then perhaps these "BE/UConn rumblings" might get interested 3rd parties (i.e.: Fox and MSG) to encourage the repatriation of UConn as a BE member... which UConn would "accept", but not without continuing to flirt with the "P5" on an ongoing basis.
Lastly, and assuming that none of this ever comes to pass, a discrete Lobbyist enables UConn to save face - as thought they never were interested in the notion to begin with.
That's my take anyways.
