As walk adds, most likely Tranghese's hands are all over this - he has been consulting actively with UCONN and others so this could very well be a path that is seen as serving everyone...
IF the FOX/MSG powers want this then it will probably happen. Our personal feelings of "no way" will matter not a whit in face of $$$.
Lock up financial protections for sure but more importantly market the heck out of this and keep the round robin schedule, possible with an 11th team.

My question around the future of MSG would be is there another conference, with a higher profile than the BE, that would commit to an every year contract to play the tournament in NYC? ACC would make the most sense based on Geography and NY based alumni, but would the southern schools sign up for this? Big 10 certainly has alumni in NYC but only 1 school within striking distance and again, would the Indianas of the league want NYC every year?
Obvioulsy, the MSG could always work out a rotating schedule with ACC, Big 10 and BE if the first two leagues wouldn’t commit to every year.
Agree that UConn would make it more likely that the BET remains in NYC every year.

remember that the Catholic 7 So what were they supposed to do sit back and get involved with SMU and Memphis? Of course they left. I don't want ucon and if it does happen the C-7 needs something back. Nobody wants them and they --really-- don't want the BE. My guess is Tranghese is telling the Presidents that the BET @ MSG is in the balance because I can't think of any other reason to let them in?

Big East ratings were reported to be up 30% this season.

Don't believe it, dad.
Things will work their way through, and MSG will remain where it stands

I believe the arrangement with the BE ends in 2026.

It does end in 2026. Both the ACC and Big 10 have said that they would like NYC as part of their rotation, but not a permanent thing.

I talked to someone who was pretty high up at MSG and said its ours as long as we want it....he's no longer there and minds can change once the Acc and b10 come rolling in but that's what I was told. Uconn helps in this area immensely.

Commissioner Ackerman was on the radio tonight, and said no one from Big East has spoken to UConn or anyone else about expansion. She also mentioned that everyone in the league likes the ten team, round robin format.

Look, I'd prefer UConn suffer in the AAC. However, more important to me and the PC basketball program, is that we get another TV contract that pays us enough to at least compete nationally in basketball. If the FS1 ratings for BE basketball are in the toilet, we could be looking at very short money when this contract is up. It's hard to argue that UConn wouldn't help in the ratings department. Again, I'd like to see UConn go the way of BC basketball (that is, beating us at their place every other year despite sucking) but my biggest concern is long term financial success of the league. Agree and I worry about the next fox contract as they'll be more established and the small Be schools and numbers means less money next time, UCONN would also help the BET......the boneyard must be in meltdown mode, they think they're better than begging for re entry to big east.
