the padres were getting national love. the friars are not.
it's not negative or positive. there's question on minutes allocation.
IF you want the negative (and facts unfortunately) -
defense improving - we're losing the best on the ball defender in the BE. not sure i see much improvement there although i guess the backup center spot has improved. is joseph>floyd, cardet/fernandez>carter, JAR>ticket - i'm guessing we'd take a push.
offense improving -praying that more balance leads to better team offense. there were many nights last year when we had 2 offensive options. corey floyd played 18, 20, 28 minutes an key three game stretch in March and had 2 points. That same 3 game stretch JP had 20pts in 76 minutes. One of those games was against gtown who guards nobody. we're grasping.

I don’t know if our defense even needs to improve. It was elite with Hop and the defensive issues w/o Hop were more of a frontcourt depth thing or lack of size thing.

the padres went for stars. our group appears to be solid players. is that good enough? We are taking major steps back at the 5 and the 3. 2G - i hope the majority of guard minutes are distributed through JP/BJ/JF/WC with JF/WC/JAR at the 3 and JAR/BH at the 4. Corey Floyd played too many minutes for his production. If he's improved a ton (and i mean a lot), then he can find some minutes. if he hasn't and still getting minutes, we're going to stink. There's a thought that these added players will allow us to increase tempo and i'm not seeing it. If Bhop has a healthy return, he's going to be on the floor for 30mpg and a fast paced style does not benefit that. Same with Christ who has to be slotted for 25mpg. I suspect/hope cream rises to the top by 1/1/25 we end up with a 8 person rotation that will see Pierre/Joseph in the 20-25mpg range, one of Fernandez, Cardet, Rahim in the 25-30 mpg range (the others around 20), Hop around 30, Christ 25 (one of the other 2 centers at 10-15). If not, Hop is hurt and we are bad. I liked Josh but I wouldn't say we are taking a major step back at the 5. We were hurt sometimes when Oduro got in foul trouble. Now we have depth, more size and I expect a good season from both Christ and Oswin. Anton is a box a cracker jacks but we may end up with a prize. PIZZA, SODA, GRINDERS!!!

Oduro - 15.9/7.5/52.7%FG/81.9%FT - BE CHrist - 8.2/5.7/50%FG/64.9% FT - A10 Of course you go to the stats but they create an unfair comparison (expected from you). You are comparing a 5th year senior to a freshman. NOTE (to help your reading comprehension): I said "I wouldn't say we are taking a major step back at the 5. We were hurt sometimes when Oduro got in foul trouble. Now we have depth, more size and I expect a good season from both Christ and Oswin. Anton is a box a cracker jacks but we may end up with a prize". I wasn't making a comparison ... just responding to YOUR word "major". We now have depth at the 5 with a huge, promising Essandoko, a 5-star Freshman who wants to be a legend at PC and a 7'2" unproven center who may shine over time. I think we'll do okay at this position and only get better. No need for throwing your comparisons around. PIZZA, SODA, GRINDERS!!!

Once Hopkins went down, last season’ s team was woefully weak and thin (literally and figuratively ) up front.
Other than for Oduro, they had to use Castro and Gaines.Think about that.
This year Kim will have the three headed center,Hopkins and Rahim, with Eli maybe #6. I loved Oduro. But the front court should be materially better this season.

we don't get 5th year christ next year so it's absolutely a fair comparison. what year would he to be to make it a fair one? can we look at the FT%?

I'm not sure if the roster is better or worse. We read a lot about Kim's offense generating open looks. How many of those open looks were due to teams keying on two guys.
The initial question was about rotation but if you want to look at the roster -
Yes, oswin/bonke should be better than castro. But are christ/oswin/bonke better than oduro/castro?
People want Rahim to play the 4. He shot 36% last year (37% from 3) and only took two 2pt shots per game so i'm expecting a little better version of ticket. will have to play some 4 but is really a 3.
2/3s are interchangeable - does replacing barron/cfl/carter with cardet/fernandez/rahim/baron/cfl make us better?
This team is set up to push the pace before hopkins comes back and it will be tough to change once he does. Will be interesting to see how KE handles it.

Oduro - 15.9/7.5/52.7%FG/81.9%FT - BE CHrist - 8.2/5.7/50%FG/64.9% FT - A10 Josh in his freshman year in A-10 = 4.9/3.9/47.7%FG/60.9%FT Not that I was calling for a comparison. PIZZA, SODA, GRINDERS!!!

irrelevant. we're not replacing 4.9/3.9 etc. Your argument is irrelevant. I said I was disagreeing with your "major" statement. Not making comparisons. As many have said, we may be better overall at the 5 this year ... size and depth with lots of potential talent. Put on your rose-colored glasses for a change. Maybe some Ex-lax as well. I think it is okay to talk about the upcoming season vs last year but in fairness most fans have no idea what we can expect. Some players like Pierre and Floyd have had multiple years in the program and should be at their peak. That could mean more or less minutes with the influx of new players. Then we have the transfers and how will they adapt to BE play and how long will it take. Then we have another group coming back from injuries. How will they adapt and how long will it take.
I think we have to Wait till around mid-December and we may have a better idea of how the roster(1-(8-9)) has changed. Hopefully Hopkins will be back and the roster will take shape by then.

you're right. josh oduro's freshman year stats at george mason mean a lot.

For the record, I think we are going to be good. Middle of the big East and making the ncaa tournament. But we can’t ignore the potential offensive issues and the fact that Bensley/JAR were role players at their previous stops.
As for the Christ/Oduro comparison, if Christ were still at Saint Joes, people would probably expect him to put up Oduro type numbers. So the question is what is the A10-Big East conversion? I think he probably puts up similar numbers this year to what he did at Joes last year.
