Hopefully we can get Bryce back for a couple of those buy games to get his feet wet. Our rebounding will be a huge issue (just like last year) if we have to play Indiana or Arizona especially

I think Fernandez is a player from day 1. I think Barron might be the odd man out for minutes when the dust settles. I like his shot, but he doesn't rebound or defend well. Maybe. But does that assume that Fernandez can rebound and defend better than Barron? How do we know? Before the knee injury Fernandez played above the rim so if Felton is right about his shot improving, which wasn't bad in the first place, I think Yank will be proven right which happens a lot

I also hear that he is a good defender also.

Like many others I have been giving considerable thought into what the rotation will look like. I have come to the conclusion that I really don’t know. Certainly I have seen enough of Pierre and Floyd to believe they are solid plus growing in effectiveness as they mature and gather playing time. But after that I just don’t know. Hopkins, Fernandez and Barron are all coming off difficult injuries and I have no clue how they will respond after significant layoffs and rehabs. Cardet, Essandoko, Joseph and Rahim as portal additions give me pause because the history of our past portal players has been mixed certainly in terms of the period of adjustment. While Oduro and Durham come to mind as making the adjustment from the beginning others like Horchler, Croswell, Minaya and others took longer. Some like Pipkens were only effective for a small sample of games. Bonke, Mela, Oswin and DeLaurier are complete mysteries because other than mixed tape there is little for me to go on. My guess is the rotation will be 8-10 per game but might vary among 11 players. Additionally I am anxious to see who has improved their development over the summer and that includes improvement and refinements in his coaching by English. I have little doubt. We will see noticeable improvements in general. So in the final analysis, I really have no idea but what the actual rotation will be. However what is not questionable is my optimism and enthusiasm for this team! 13 dudes!

if floyd is getting comparable minutes to last year he's either improved a ton or we haven't.

One advantage for Floyd over guys he’s competing with for minutes (Fernandez and Barron) is that he is not coming off of an injury. I actually think there’s a chance Floyd is a starter on opening night since Hopkins will not be back yet.

I would not expect to see too much of Pierre and Joseph on the floor at the same time 1. Because of their relative smaller size 2. Predominantly point guards. That would leave Floyd, Cardet and Barron who has shown little ball handling skills, as other available guards.

Interesting topic. It's all so speculative in today's musical chairs of college basketball rosters. Think about it, as a group here we know what we know about exactly two guys: Floyd and Pierre (neither inspire me to thoughts of greatness). We know quite a bit about two other guys: Barron and Hop but our estimations are clouded by injury recovery's. Everyone else is a guess, at best. Yes, this can be said of other programs but this thread is about THIS program.
For me, it comes down to whether or not English got what he wanted this offseason. Did he get his dudes? Or did he get a mere facsimile of them? Youtube clips don't work for me in answering this. Neither do statistics or blogger scouts. I know this, I'll need a roster card to identify our players for a good month or so. Part of that's fun, part of it's terrifying.

It's easy to be enthralled with our apparent depth, athleticism, and scoring options...but I have a nagging thought that if this new team doesn't fire, we could be watching the 2023 San Diego Padres.

the padres went for stars. our group appears to be solid players. is that good enough? We are taking major steps back at the 5 and the 3.
2G - i hope the majority of guard minutes are distributed through JP/BJ/JF/WC with JF/WC/JAR at the 3 and JAR/BH at the 4. Corey Floyd played too many minutes for his production. If he's improved a ton (and i mean a lot), then he can find some minutes. if he hasn't and still getting minutes, we're going to stink.
There's a thought that these added players will allow us to increase tempo and i'm not seeing it. If Bhop has a healthy return, he's going to be on the floor for 30mpg and a fast paced style does not benefit that. Same with Christ who has to be slotted for 25mpg.
I suspect/hope cream rises to the top by 1/1/25 we end up with a 8 person rotation that will see Pierre/Joseph in the 20-25mpg range, one of Fernandez, Cardet, Rahim in the 25-30 mpg range (the others around 20), Hop around 30, Christ 25 (one of the other 2 centers at 10-15). If not, Hop is hurt and we are bad.

I was talking about expectations for last year's Padres...I see a lot of hype from Friars fans for this upcoming season and I hope we aren't all disappointed.
On paper, I like our roster a lot...

I think in general, Friar fans are underrating our defense and also underestimating the chance that our offense is a dumpster fire. If the Carter-Hop-Oduro trio didn’t work offensively, why would Cardet- injured Hop- Christ work any better? Going to come down to growth from Pierre and the upgrade of Bensley/JAR over Garwey/Ticket

Both walk and bradcav have brought up negatives. To repeat brad, are we "underestimating the chance that our offense is a dumpster fire."
Let's talk offensive capabilities...
