So we can criticize the players, but not the coach?
Every aspect of the program should be able to be praised or criticized when warranted. I don’t know how you guys can be so outraged over criticism of English. Guys like Castro, Floyd, and Garwey have been criticized recently (and rightfully so), but English is untouchable?
Even Pierre has taken some heat, both on here and with friends, but I think he’s been solid this year and will be a good starting PG for us for the next two years, but it’s not outrageous that his play (especially defensively) has been criticized. So why does it strike a nerve with English?

It seems the majority of the board just think you're wrong. Not striking a nerve, the majority think you're wrong.

In defense of Bradcav, my buddy is a coach of a well-regarded NJ prep school that sends kids to D1 schools every year. He's had a problem with KE's offense this year because it stalls every game.
Conceptually, he agrees with the KE's philosophical approach. It is just that, realistically, he doesn't have the players to execute his preferred offense, and he hasn't adjusted game to game.
Overall, he's very high on KE, this is his observation.

Coaching in Div 1 today is much more than offense X and O's. There's defense, buy in, recruiting, retention, fund raising, public relations, etc. KE is doing more than I ever expected in his first year.

In light of the references to the other board, I appreciate that this board is respectful to different opinions and most of us are tolerant of different opinions.
While I do agree Brad has been a bit harsh regarding KE, I respect his opinion, and at times, I agree that KE has been trying to fit a square peg into a round hole (more so with Hopkins than without).
Overall, I think we’re lucky to have KE and I am very optimistic about the future!! I believe we have more potential to win bigger with KE than we did with Cooley.
Using Pierre as an example, he gets more criticism than anyone. I’m not saying it’s not fair, but every time the guy burns him on D, someone comments on it. We’re lucky he stuck around, and I hope he comes back next season.

Absolutely yankee. bradcav, you're leaning towards deserving my annual Needs ExLax Award. We lost a first team BE player (pre-season) and outside of Gaines, Oduro and Carter, our remaining 5 players had 6 years of D1 experience going into this year. English has done a solid job in my opinion. We were picked 7th preseason WITH HOPKINS and will do at least that without Bryce. Where is all this disdain coming from? PIZZA,SODA,GRINDERS!!! I think when you are judging a coach, you have to see the roster the coach has. Think back to Dan Hurley and his URI teams against Ed Cooley and Providence. Ed and PC owned URI during the Hurley days winning 5 of the 6 games played each December. Yet Hurley goes to UConn and wins a National Title. So is Cooley or Hurley a better coach? I would conclude that the players are much more important than the school. I would say Kim English, in one year at Providence, with a patchwork roster and missing one of the best players in the BE, has had a very good year for a BE coach. There are many variables that need to be accounted for when trying to gauge the success of a coach. KE is showing that he can recruit and has a modern system to attract top recruits. He’s also been there and can be more of a mentor than most. I believe he’s going to get further into the tourney than Cooley did for us and achieve great things over his coaching career.

Coach English has been pretty clear that he is going to run his preferred offense in spite of this year's talent and their ability to do so. I guess that's cool, but I think some consideration of the fact that this roster may be best when shooting mid-range shots should have factored in a bit more. I don't know that they'd have won any more games post-Hopkins regardless though...maybe at SJ or Butler (which would have been won if Oduro hadn't been missing for a wonderful reason).
In the end, I'm a fan of what he's done this year and look forward to Saturday's opportunity!

I’ll give some positives on Kim
1. Kept the team together last offseason, was absolutely essential 2. Pre Hop injury, that defense was ELITE. I think we were probably a top 25 team with Hop too 3. Barron was a great find, he’s going to be a huge piece moving forward 4. The one guy who has flourished in this offense is Carter. Huge selling point for recruiting high level guards and wings 5. The one game they were committed to running more sets and scripting more, maybe best game of the season vs Creighton. Need more of that and less freedom vs UConn and in BE Tourney 6. I was critical of the drop coverage early in the season, but the numbers showed it was really effective

You make good points for him as BE COY! I don't think he is, but nice points about our coach!

the last guy who ran his stuff was Keno and we know how that worked out. Now i think Kim and Keno could not be more different so...but i do wish we ran more set stuff. too many of our guys just aren't good enough to shoot it just because they're open. we don't need to start the game chucking threes (unfortunately, i'm not sure we can win sat without making a bunch). would have been nice to scale it back against nova (i guess floyd being had an impact).
It's perfectly legitimate to criticize the offense as i don't believe Kim's had an offense finish in the top half of his conference.

Understanding what you're getting at, it's valid to consider the fact that Kim had a short tenure at GM and is now just completing his first year at PC. During this run, he has recruited two shooters in Rich Barron and Ryan Mela. More will be needed to assess whether shooters (and the team) can thrive with the open looks being created (while maintaining the level of defensive efficiency we've witnessed this season).

If some of the returning players can start knocking them down, great. If KE adds thru portal, great. Carter made a great leap this year on his 3 pt %, hope others follow his lead next year (or even better, this year going forward.).

We really can’t mend fences with the other board and get you guys over there? What board? The scout board unfortunately is still the “main” board.
