Think of what would have happened to the program if Cooley left last week. I’d say he’s worth whatever raise he got.

Did mean to say Final Four appearances. Thanks Cteve. Sorry for making you rush to your Encyclopedia Britannica. The point is never say never about offers, whether made public or that quiet phone call. BTW, coaches who did leave a school having won a NC include Pitino, Steve Fisher, Tubby Smith, Kelvin Sampson, Rollie Massimino, Jim Harrick, Larry Brown. Disclaimer ... I think those names are right but I'm getting older each day and could be wrong ... again. Some not right away but whitefriar never stipulated that. Happy Memorial Day. PIZZA, SODA, GRINDERS!!! Not to nitpick...but you may want to recheck that list. You're right Zippy. Sampson didn't win one. Happy Memorial Day! PIZZA, SODA, GRINDERS!!!

Bottom line is several coaches could have squeezed their school for a few extra bucks but turned down the opportunity to talk to Michigan for whatever reason. Ours didn't which is a little disappointing after the season we just had and time of year.

Cooley was on the Jeff Goodman podcast today and discussed how close he was to going to Michigan. Sounds like it was pretty hairy for us...

Cooley's good...he's very good.
Well said Mike...an interesting version of Drama Week somewhat different than every single reporter who has written on the subject from both Michigan's and PC's viewpoint
As was said on the Batman tv show in 1965 same time, same Bat station next year
ps as an aside, this thread bears witness to arguably the worst set of consistently erroneous scatter-brained posts in FTH history by none other than Thumperella...quite painful stuff

Posted at 12:48 PM Updated at 2:20 PM PROVIDENCE — Providence College basketball fans are thrilled that homegrown Ed Cooley is coaching the Friars, but when he was exploring his options last May, one very familiar name took notice.
In an interview on CBS Sports Network’s One2One that airs Friday night, Rick Pitino told Lesley Visser that a return to Providence entered his mind when Cooley spoke with the University of Michigan (watch the video here). The Wolverines ended up hiring Juwan Howard, but only after Cooley removed his name from the job search and PC signed him to a lucrative contract extension.
“The only thing that I’ll say is Ed Cooley was rumored to go to Michigan,” Pitino said. “The only thing that got my juices flowing and excited was if he takes the Michigan job I could possibly go back to Providence College.”
Pitino was fired in October 2017 after a wildly successful 17-year run at Louisville after his program was linked to the FBI’s investigation of illegal payments to recruits. He landed in the European professional ranks where he won a championship in 2019 in his first season with Greek club Panathinaikos. Pitino, 66, will not return for a second season but has expressed an interest in coaching.
Pitino coached at Providence from 1985 to 1987, leading the Friars on an improbable run to the 1987 Final Four. He left after that season to become head coach of the New York Knicks.
“One of my biggest regrets in basketball was not spending more time at Providence College because I loved the school so much,” Pitino said.

We think his agent called URI and Siena. He would take anything. As for us, I would pass (Walk doesn't believe it, but I would. With regrets).

Imagine if your life was out there for everyone. If he was a normal guy, like your friend or my friend it would be high fives for all. ‘nice gig bro! Can’t believe you did that!’ Get off your high horse
