Maybe a restatement by Dex of what the pledge stands for is in order. 😀 I do not believe it requires firing Ed if it is not achieved. I am close to making the pledge. Dex?

"I want an NCAA run as bad or more than anyone but I’m not up for the just get in and then win BS. That happens once in a blue moon for all average teams."
Mediocrity at its finest. The Pledge is it is time for Cooley to make a run in the Tourney. Natural progression after 9 years of running his system.
Cooley has promised excellence, not mediocrity. Been given everything he has asked for, including a bogus raise based on fake news about Michigan. 9 years in and 1 NCAA win? TW was fired for less in a much different environment.

Mike, If you think that Cooley is in any danger of losing his job after he’s made the ncaas 6 times in 9 years, you need to take some time off from the board....
This is a guy that came here at one of our darkest moments. Not only was our hoops team a mess on the court, we were in big danger of being penalized for academic and off the court issues. Cooley came here and instantly brought in better talent and put teams on the floor that were not only good but eminently more likeable than the horror show that preceeded him. To even suggest that his situation is like TW borders on lunacy.
So here’s the pledge I will make. If Cooley’s next 9 years are exactly like his first 9 years at PC, I will be the first person to suggest a statue of him be built on campus. Because here’s the deal. There’s more of a possibility that we’d be DePaul right now with no Cooley than there is a chance that we’d be making 3 NCAAs in 9 years with no Cooley.
Some of you guys need to get over the butthurt you are feeling with Cooley trying to use a Michigan offer to get more $ from his employer. It’s exactly what I would have advised him or any other coach to do.

Some people either have poor memories, or perhaps very selective ones. I will try to refresh some recollections here.
Tim Welsh's career at PC was mediocre at best.
1. In ten years [1998 to 2008] he made 3 NITs and 2 NCAAS. 2. He won zero NCAA games. 3. Shockingly, he won 1 BET game!!!Think about that!!In 10 years he won ONE BET GAME!!!I went to MSG every year and suffered through that in the flesh!! 4. Towards the end of his tenure it was clear that he had to go.
Ed Cooley came in and, brick by brick, has turned the Program around on and off the court.Look at what he has done in 9 years at little ole PC.He is the best man for this job!
I get the frustration that we have not yet gotten a stud commit or two for 2020.Cooley has to a certain extent become the victim of his own success.Expectations have been raised so high because if his successes on the recruiting front [getting commits of highly ranked players like Ledo, Dunn, Lindsey, Austin,Duke, MAL , Gantt, and Reeves, for example]. But-- I have faith that between now and next Summer we will have some good players added [in addition to Bynum, Horchler and Breed].
I go the the BET every year. When PC is in the Big DANCE ,more often than not I am in the building.I live and die B & W as most, if not all, of us on here do. And I cannot wait for a Sweet 16 or better year.But----think about PC's history my friends before jumping off bridges .
The last time PC won an NCAA Game before the one Cooley has on his resume was 1997.Think about that!!!!
The "most recent" Sweet 16 or better years were 1973, 1987 and 1997!!!
So bottom line to me is this. I think Ed has a team that is second weekend worthy THIS SEASON.I will be disappointed if this team does not accomplish that. The pieces are in place. But----if it does not happen, I still want Ed COOLEY AS THE HEAD MAN FOR "MY fRIARS."

I actually agree with '71 for a change. Only thing I will add is that if it doesn't happen this season, I don't see if happening, near term. The time is now.

A - I guess several coaches didn't take your advice as there's not a chance in hell Cooley was in Michigan's top 10. He's done great things at PC. Comparable results at Michigan probably get him fired. Picked the wrong year to squeeze us.
71 - you're on point in your TW comparisons. Wish your memory defending keno was as on point.

Why was it the wrong year to squeeze us? How do we know where Cooley stood with Michigan? It's not like they had big name coaches going for the job. We know 2 things. Cooley and Michigan engaged in talks and Cooley got paid. I have no idea what interest level Michigan had. Only thing I know is that the guy got a pretty fat extension. Good business move that I don't have a problem with.

Cooley is a heck of a lot more respected outside of the people on this message board. You can be certain of that. When outsiders look at what he has accomplished here they marvel that it was done at this school, from the consistent competitiveness to the upgrades on infrastructure. None of that happens without him. Many people on this board are just miserable. The only thing that makes me miserable is to see Dex become one of them.

what was the extension? He reportedly had a lifetime deal before that. And you're right, take what you can when you can because some 19 year kid can do something stupid and you're out of a job. Do you really think he was even close to the top of their list? As mentioned, anyone could've put there name out and gotten a raise.
J - Michigan fans weren't exactly doing cartwheels when Cooley was being interviewed.

Maybe a restatement by Dex of what the pledge stands for is in order. 😀 I do not believe it requires firing Ed if it is not achieved. I am close to making the pledge. Dex? lowcountry I have chosen to respond to you because you have your head screwed on straight as opposed to transient posters and guys who have no clue as to what happens on Bradley Hill and are too lazy to find out. First let me state that Cooley has a contract for life so he is our coach until he chooses to leave or commits acts specified in his contract that are deemed by PC as detrimental to the school. As I stated in a previous post that some bastages here are too friggin lazy to read, the only thing better than his 5 ncaa's in 6 years is the fact that he saved PC basketball. I repeat He Saved PC Basketball for the reading comprehension challenged. That is why he is coach for life which is fine with me. As for the statue in his honor, anyone who has visited the Ruane center or took the time to view photos online knows that there are bronze statues of Gavitt and Mullaney at the front entrance. There is also a space as part of the statues that is empty waiting for a 3rd person. Those fortunate to have attended the dedication know that it is intended for Cooley which is also fine with me. So who is calling for the firing of Cooley if he doesn't get wins in the ncaa's? The answer for those who try to put words in other poster's mouths like the so called "journalists" these days is NOBODY. Not even the so called Miserables who are the most critical among us have suggested that action to my knowledge. The Pledge is really a Goal. Is it an unreasonable goal to expect two ncaa tourney wins every 5 or 9 years? Perhaps it is for some in which case so be it. For me, and some others, we think that it's a reasonable goal...just like almost every specimen on this Board used to say under previous coaches: "All I want is an NCAA invite every maybe 4 years, is that too much to ask?" Well NOW my fine feathered friends you have a nationally acclaimed Coach, a budget we used to dream about and facilities to die for....Soooo why is a 2nd weekend once in awhile so far fetched? Baloney Before last year His Most Miserableness WALK prudently stated that Ed is entitled to a Mulligan if things don't work out. Of course he deserved a Mulligan for crice sakes after 5 straight ncaa's. I argued with the Miserables when they went a little wobbly with that Pledge because, while it was not Ed's most commendable coaching year, he isn't the one who shoots the ball or has to get back on Defense. He also didn't cause injuries to Alpha, KC or AJ last November & December which screwed up the OOC. Big Ed is Coach, not a deity. When he is wrong, most people here, except for some blatant homer's, say it. Miserables are not always wrong And Homer's are not always right. Sure Ed wants to get paid and I take a backseat to nobody when it comes to adhering to capitalism...especially the bleeding heart snowflakes. So if a learned man says that the Michigan situation Could Have Been Handled Better is one disloyal? If a moron thinks that then I would say in the words of the immortal Bonco SCREW. Since he got here in 2011 Ed has been right a LOT and this board and the media has acknowledged it. Even those who don't go to the games can probably tell how electric the fans were last year for conference games with near sellouts every night. There's only one man most responsible for that and it's Ed Cooley. Now as for one's expectations for the present upcoming season. We have a gang of Top 100's like Alpha, AJ, Duke, Gantt and Nate. We have a 3 year veteran PG 5th year transfer to help direct the team. We have experience with Kalif and Maliek who, while not stars, have been through Big East wars and have been to the tourney. We have a hoped for emerging contributor in Jimmy and, fingers crossed, a hoped for veteran leader in Emmit to contribute. We also have two transfers who, while they can't play, theoretically will make practices better all season. We also have an addition to the staff that most people I know consider a pretty good basketball mind. So one could say: If not now, when? So yeah I'm expecting a TWO WIN tourney season and a HIGH SEED to help effectuate that goal which J correctly pointed out to us.

Take a bow, Dex. Perfect.
You must be in your 70’s and retired to write a novel like that. 😀
