The NCAA tournament is an absolute crap shoot and your pledge is crap so it all kind of works. We will get over the hump with this and it won't have anything to do with some ridiculous pledge. If we make a run or don't it will completely be because of matchups. The real pledge should be to get ourselves a great seed to give us a chance. You are not going anywhere with an 8 seed or higher most of the time. C'mon Dex with all this Pledge crap?? Wax on/ Wax off!! Coaching has no affect on outcomes in the NCAA's. It's all a crap shoot! There have been twenty-two 11 seeds to win their second-round games and advance to the Sweet 16. Seeds of the losing teams are in parentheses. Year Winner Loser Score 2018 Loyola Chicago (3) Tennessee 63–62 2018 Syracuse (3) Michigan State 55–53 2017 Xavier (3) Florida St. 91–66 2016 Gonzaga (3) Utah 82–59 2015 UCLA† (14) UAB 92–75 2014 Tennessee† (14) Mercer 83–63 2014 Dayton (3) Syracuse 55–53 2012 NC State (3) Georgetown 66–63 2011 Marquette (3) Syracuse 66–62 VCU (3) Purdue 94–76 2010 Washington (3) New Mexico 82–64 2006 George Mason (3) North Carolina 65–60 2002 Southern Illinois (3) Georgia 77–75 2001 Temple (3) Florida 75–54 1998 Washington† (14) Richmond 81–66 1991 Connecticut† (14) Xavier 66–50 1990 Loyola Marymount (3) Michigan 149–115 1989 Minnesota† (14) Siena 80–67 1988 Rhode Island (3) Syracuse 97–94 1986 LSU (3) Memphis 83–81 1985 Auburn (3) Kansas 66–64 1985 Boston College (3) Duke 74–73 They all took The Pledge! ....gotta love friartown...

Upsets happen Mike that's for sure. I agree with FriarJ about seeding which I assumed was a given when I had mentioned that we are almost always nearer the 68 than the 1...and that's an understatement indeed. I also agree with Walk who had mentioned that if the field were 32 we might have made it twice under Cooley I believe he said paraphrasing.
I also agree with Thumperella who indicated that before Cooley, making the tourney was a novelty....that's why it's so important to us starved fans. However that doesn't impress me nearly as much as the fact that he saved Friar basketball.
But fans expect Big things from highly paid coaching staffs. Execution and Winning Now ...except for my pal pc"johnny" who's willing to wait for another Final 4 till he is an octogenarian, God Love Him.
"Execution and Winning Now" and that is the genesis of the Miserable rogue phenomenon. Admittedly...I am more impatient now than ever.
Consequently I find myself moving more and more toward rogue Miserable and further away from the Apologist specie. I am not alone.

Once you reach your 70's you might not have a lot of time left for PC to make a run.

I agree seeding matters. Sooooooo shall we change The Pledge to “no more Brown Stains and a better seed” I’m taking The Pledge to Cooley putting it all together Regular and Post season and getting us to the 2nd weekend at a minimum! ....gotta love friartown...

I'm down for us making the 2nd Weekend.
The path to arriving at that point will be far easier if:
- We avoid the dreaded "Brown Stains" during the Regular Season; - The staff settles in on the right rotation early on, to ensure the right level of chemistry and teamwork; - Players hit their outside shots and foul shots at a respectable rate; - Team rebounding and tough twos become hallmarks of this squad - Dr. Jonas Salk arrives on time to administer flu shots for the entire team

That’s all I’m saying, do better in the regular season, coach better in the regular season, play better in the regular season and put your team in a better place than a damn 8th seed or worse and the NCAA victories will come. I’m certain.

See Dex, people;e are coming around to "The Pledge". ....gotta love friartown... I won’t have any expectation ever in the NCAA so no pledge from me. It simply is a crap shoot for all but the really best top 10 teams. That being said it’s time for us to be one of those teams but I refuse to tie success to the 2nd weekend.

Cooley killed us in Big East with his rotations. Play 8 guys like good teams do.

I see where you are coming from but, potential recruits see "no expectations in the NCAA for PC" from every opposing coach recruiting the same recruits. Lack of success in the NCAA is catching up to PC on the recruiting trail. I'll take your lack of The Pledge as a vote for mediocrity. ....gotta love friartown...

We get Cooley fired? I want an NCAA run as bad or more than anyone but I’m not up for the just get in and then win BS. That happens once in a blue moon for all average teams. I want to win all the time. And when we do that a la Nova the wins and recurring success in the NCAA will happen. To think that a simple sweet 16 run every now and then is what this stupid pledge is about and is enough to make you happy is the height of mediocrity. I expect more but I’m also realistic enough to understand how it works.
