I think Mal will step it up. He is the only true point on the roster And at this point, we aren't recruiting any for 2019 either.

Hunch from flashes from last year. Anybody who says Billy the Kid was a player in his sophomore year is mistaken. He had a push shot and almost transferred.

I like seeing Cooley starting to press more, but when he rolls with it, he should go with MAL, Duke, Jimmy, Kalif..

And his "push shot" went in the hoop and his free throws went in the hoop. I watched every game last year. He played well early against St. Louis where I was encouraged. I've asked you what you've seen in his game. You've given me flashes. You've got nothing.

C’mon Mick.
I know it was over 30 years ago. But I remember watching Billy D then.He was laughable on the court his first two seasons. Billy Donovan was an overweight kid who could hardly move his first two years at PC. Kudos to him and Pitino to whip himself into shape and turn him into the player he ultimately became.
MAL was a stud winner at the highest levels of AAU and Prep ball.He has it in him. If MAL works hard and regains his confidence,he will be a contributor .

Laughable overweight means not athletic enough to not play D1 ‘71 not doesn’t have the skill to play D1.
Take off your PC colored glasses. It has been 30 years. Billy D looked way better than MAL his first two years and MAL is a better athlete. Not even close.
Pitino wouldn’t have kept MAL even if no other team would take him. He believed in Billy D because he had the skill to play but was out of shape.
Dick Pennyfather had the skill to play D1 without the athleticism. MAL has the athleticism without the skill.

Mick,
As Frosh, Billy D scored 65 points. Makai scored 130.
Whether one is not producing due to lack of skill, being out of shape, or lacking confidence, the bottom line is what is being accomplished on the floor
Point I was trying to make is that it is too early to be quitting on Makai just like it would have been too early to quit on BillyD after one year. Time will tell if he turns things around or not.But Makai did better on the court on a good team than BillyD did on a horrible team in Year 1 of his PC career.

Mick - A poster on one of the two boards mentioned having watched MAL continually during a pre-game shoot around, and he mentioned that the kid didn't miss a single shot throughout. I read that to mean that while some may question his form (much like Billy D's sophomore "push shots"), he's capable of putting the ball in the hoop. Which takes us to his shooting only 2-7 from the field (0-4 from 3) during the 27 minutes of play he's received this season. Not a very big sample of what the sophomore version might be capable of, particularly when he's hit every shot during a pre-game shoot around. Perhaps it is a lack of confidence on his part. MAL wouldn't be the first individual who struggles when it all counts. Who knows - with a bit more confidence, perhaps he would have been able to convert on a couple more of those misses...enough to be at 4-7 on the season. While a small sample still, he'd be fourth on the team in terms of shooting % (behind AJ, Nate and Kalif). As of now, I believe his shooting % and that of Duke is the same (.286) Now I'm not suggesting that MAL doesn't need to perform at a higher level to secure added minutes, but I'm not willing to write him off just yet. Let's see what happens over the next couple of months as the team and rotation gels. I'm betting that most here would love nothing more than for MAL to take his game up a couple of notches. There's certainly room to do so. Hard to believe that he's lost the capabilities that he had 3.5 years ago. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKG2MI9l3W0Honestly, I'm much more concerned about his assist/turnover ratio at this point.

Suspended - The comment had to do with his ability to hit shots, despite whatever mechanical issues he has...and my hope that it translates over to his production during games.
No doubt, Kai has plenty to work on. My post reflected the possibility that confidence may in part, be part of the issue. Count me among those who hope he overcomes whatever challenges he's having.

We’re worried about if he can or can’t hit shots? Has anyone seen him defensively? Good grief, that’s where the real trouble is IMO.
