Spot on friar80. Very good points...
Unfortunate this social media thing is making this into a potential mess.

I think that most here would agree that this matter has the potential to become an unfortunate and highly disruptive distraction for certain individuals and the program itself. That said, I'd suggest that we not feed this string with any additional fuel (i.e.: social media posts) that is counter productive to what we all should hope... that the matter settles down, and that MAL and the staff figure out how best to elevate his game. In short, I feel that the dialogue on this one needs to be between MAL, his father and the Coaching Staff. (Note: it appears that a fan or two from "opposing programs" are trolling MAL's father with incendiary tweets, recognizing that there may be an opportunity to inflict damage on our program. ) Well said 82!! If you truly care about PC hoops and want it and its players to succeed, there is no need for incendiary comments on this Board against MAL, his family, or anyone else. MAL had a great AAU and Prep School career. He won everywhere he played. he was said to be a leader and a guy who would help get really good players to join him on Smith Hill. For whatever reason, he has had difficulties parlaying what he accomplished in the past into big success at PC so far.But---we are only 3 games into his second year in the Program. How many of us wanted to kick out guys like Billy Donovan and Cotton [two big examples] at a comparable stage of their respective Friar careers? Thank God we did NOT listen to those who did. We ask the player and family to be patient and understanding. How about those of us on this board who are ready to throw a kid out and /or disparage him and his family show some maturity and patience with those in the Friar Family? Good things will NOT come from people posting stuff on places like here---merely adding fuel to the fire. Ed Cooley is a smart, generally positive and nice man.He wants to win. But, he cares about his "kids" a great deal also.I have had the pleasure of speaking with MAL's dad in the past.He seemed to be a nice and respectful person who spoke highly of Cooley.Ed and staff are paid the big bucks to manage situations like this one.Hopefully they, the player and his family will openly and privately communicate .We and they all want Makai to succeed---for his sake and for the Friars' team's sake as well. If MAL has it in him to be a true contributor at PC-- I have faith that Cooley will be able to get it out of him.If it ends up just not being there---then the parties will need to honestly address things and do what needs doing.But---I do not believe that should include jumping off a bridge at this point.

Saw this coming from a mile away with the father. Details? Did he decide to leave UConn or did UConn say thanks but no thanks? From the first time I saw him play (Houston Baptist) it was evident that he couldn’t shoot a 15 footer. As poor as is shooting is, his basketball IQ and decision making might be worse. He plays like an out of control Corey Wright with a worse shot. Not a good combo. What did our gurus see in his play that made him such a board favorite? The hype train on him made it seem like we had the second coming of God Shammgod. Maybe what would be best for him and his family is to transfer to a lower level. His athleticism would compensate for his shooting and decision making skills. Umass-Boston, Bryant, or maybe even RIC would be a nice landing spot for him. Hopefully he finds a place where he can be happy. *** Do people call Makai “MAL” or is just a nickname both of boards have given him. Anytime I say the name MAL to a Friar fan that doesn’t read these boards. They have no clue whom I’m referring to.

The real loser in this right now is the dad, just not a good way to conduct yourself; harms his son with no collateral benefit in its wake (Ed's NOT gonna say: "Whoa, better play him more." ) It does look like the kid's speed may have hidden a lot of flaws at the high school level. Can't hide them anymore. I don't blame PC for taking a shot (remember, we are just a short time removed from playing Ted Bancroft in the backcourt) on MAL and I hope he stays and works on his game, he could be a light-bulb moment away from advancing towards his potential. Just wish his father kept this between men.

It’s simply sharing public information regarding our program with this board. If any of us were responding/trolling on Twitter that might be a different story. I do agree that Twitter is no place to air grievances with anyone.

"I once aired a grievance on Twitter and got someone to change their mind", said nobody EVER.

Here's what KFar was saying back in the day. The only thing here is his speed as Rock eluded to. friarbasketball.com/2015/04/29/closer-look-makai-ashton-langford/friarbasketball.com/2017/04/11/5-things-makai-ashton-langfords-commitment/For those comparing the Billy D & Cotton situations after a couple of years, Billy D shot .368/.714 & .471/.667 his 1st two years. Cotton shot.387/.259/.784 & .413/.379/.891 his 1st two year. Bring in Kyron and he is .380/.121/.742 & .363/.364/.672 We need to get real here. If the switch goes off, it'll be the greatest turnaround in PC history. The great story of Billy the Kid was never really about whether he had the skills to play D1 basketball. It was whether he had the athleticism to be able to take advantage of those skills at the D1 level. MAL has not shown that he has D1 skills at all up to this point.

One thing I noticed with MAL is that he doesn't finish with his left hand
even when he goes left he always attempts to come back and finish with his right hand
This can be done but it leaves you a lot more susceptible to getting your shot blocked
I remember vividly last year him getting all the way to the rim pretty easily early on but then a defender would just come over the top and swat his shot
I think having his shot sent back so much has his confidence rattled and he's tentative to drive......add this up with the fact he's a shaky shooter and that's why he's struggling …..or one of the reasons

MAL was a top 50 player so obviously, we were gonna go hard after him....
At this point, it looks like it's just a big miss by everyone who thought he was gonna be a top player. Yeah, yeah, we know about the Bryce Cottons...but those stories are dwarfed by the stories of second year kids who struggled and moved on to other programs. Part of what helped Bryce Cotton was that his coach kept recruiting players who were worse than him...This is not a place where Cooley can just keep waiting for MAL to become the player he thought he was getting....he needs a true PG...which is why he's going so hard after one on the recruiting trail. It's sink or swim time for MAL. He seems like a great kid so I'm rooting for him, but at this point, I see no reason to think he can win games against top competition.

Cooley is giving MAL a chance, It is his responsibility to take advantage of the opportunity.

I think Mal will step it up. He is the only true point on the roster

MAL is definitely getting opportunity, and the recruitment of his brother is not working against him. Happy to hear that pops changed his tune.
As far as djoc13's feedback: "He is the only true point on the roster"
Bryce Cotton wasn't a true PG out of high school, and Kris Dunn really wasn't either. David Duke isn't off to the best of starts, but I think he's shown the ability to turn himself into an elite PG, and I think he can turn himself into a Kris Dunn-like player.
Also, I don't care if it's a true PG or not, but I want somebody who can get the ball up the court without turning it over.
