I presume having 20% of the Division One teams qualify for the Dance is for fan interest?
Or money?
Or for Coaches?
Or all three?
Anyone think it's too easy these days?

Let's say they were to drop off to 32 teams. How many at large bids would be left for teams that didn't win their Conference Championships? I believe that number would be 6 (?)
Now, let's say that the NCAA was in charge of handing out those remaining 6 at-large bids...
You probably get the idea. A lot of worthy programs would be left in the wake of the cheaters, nose pickers, and anointed "blue bloods" who'd get a fee pass each year, to move to the front of the line.

The additional at large weren't necessary. Bring it back to 64.

When they went from 64 to 68, how many automatic bids were added due to conference shuffling?

I though it was all conference related as they wanted to keep the at large pool the same size

IMO, think current field of 68 with play+in games is great.
Smaller conferences get autobids - mid major conferences can get extra at large bids and it recognizes the level of competition within major conferences.
Last night, in what I call the "appetizer games", Radford had a chance to showcase what is a decent team; St. Bonnie's advantaged their stage to knock off legendary power UCLA.
Good stuff...
