Normal blood flow to my nether regions has resumed... I am sure Mrs. Conn is relieved.

Wonderful news! Glad the program stepped up to keep him. We're either trying to be a big time program or not. Credit to all the fans who have refilled the Dunk in Cooley's tenure, combined with FS1 deal for making this possible.

Of course, a raise always helps.

Judging by some replies on twitter the Michigan fans are happy to go with someone else. Probably not impressed with the 5 first round appearances. whatever great news for PC. We need more time with Cooley at the helm to get to the sweet 16 or beyond.

It’s a business. Period.
The PC Press Release is fine though notably lacking any notion/mention of a “lifetime” contract, etc. Any such presentment is the stuff of nonsense. Period.
Cooley had every right to talk and listen to Michigan and should he bring us to further future success he will more than likely listen to other offers. He got a raise and an extension. Period.
Last year was the mulligan year even with 18 W’s and the Short-lived NIT mess.
Some may opine the halo is tarnished.
What halo?
The only “halo” we need is a much larger buyout tied to the raise and extension.
Just WIN Big Ed, just WIN.

Bob Driscoll was reportedly up all night trying to make this happen...

Stupid. As I asked before 'was he offered and for how much?' If the answer is yes -- I don't think it was-- than yeah, nothing "would steer him away."
If no offer was made, Ed sensed it was over. manuel had to wait to the next interview and no buyout for Howard. This was a setup for both Ed and manuel who wanted to look at a few people -- his job-- before naming Howard.

Most here use the Headline: He Is Staying
But the more you read in the Mid-West
Maybe, just maybe, Michigan was instrumental in that decision.
Every man should be so lucky to have a friend like Flipper
Bon A Salute Big Ed

Not knowing who Father Shanley's replacement will be - and how he'll feel about investing in the program going forward, this round of negotiations may have locked in additional $$$ (perhaps through Incentives which Ed may not have had previously; perhaps more $$$ for Assistants...), not to mention the addition of an all-important Buy-Out Clause Please see Line 36: Unlike most every highly paid coach, Ed has had no Incentive-based compensation (all guaranteed salary) and no Buy-Out Clause. We shall see if the modifications to Ed's Contract are focused on these omissions, or simply a bump in base compensation. sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/mens-basketball/coach/

Wasn't a large buyout reported at the signing of the lifetime deal?

I don't recall that being the case, and took note of what USAToday reported. It's fairly detailed, to the point where the absence of any buy-out info doesn't feel like an omission. At this point and with the $$$ PC is paying Ed, he and his agent should accept a buyout clause in exchange for any incremental security the school is providing - particularly if its in the form of an increase to his base salary.
