I was at Schneider tonight and people who should know said White and Diallo won't play.
I am surprised that Cartwright's ankle is taking so long but I guess playing him the last few games hasn't helped.
I felt his lateral movement against Brown was painful to watch. Like the walk I thought our great coach would have brought Drew in earlier but we won and KC was indeed dressed so he was cleared medically.
Perhaps we can bring along the kid who hit the half court shot for $ 5K at the Brown game...he shot better than most of our guys.
Cooley has been in worst spots than this with our Friars.....BUT I hope umass really really stinks
IMO this notion that one can't respectfully critique players and coaches strategy around here is ridiculous. It's the essence of being a fan for crice sakes and part of the fun.

Kept thinking that Coach could bring in Edwards to settle things down. He must have had his reasons for waiting ?..........

Kmac Article Walking Wounded
The semester exam break couldn’t have arrived fast enough for Providence College.
Classes ended at PC on Friday and soon after the basketball team boarded a bus for Amherst in advance of Saturday’s game against Massachusetts. Just who can step on the floor for that game is unclear, however.
PC coach Ed Cooley said that while neither Alpha Diallo (ankle) nor Maliek White (leg) suffered major damage when they went down with injuries in an overtime win against Brown on Wednesday, both are questionable to play against UMass (4-5). He’s hoping point guard Kyron Cartwright (ankle) can suit up “but I won’t know that until we get to the game, really.”
Even Cooley isn’t feeling well. He’s dealing with a bad cold and says getting past the UMass game won’t be easy for his team.
“First of all I think they’re a good team that’s played a lot of teams really tough,” he said. “But we’re really banged up. We’ll see who we have ready and go play the game but, yes, the break can’t come fast enough for the Friars.”
The good news for Providence (7-2) is this is Cooley’s deepest team and while he said after the 77-72 overtime win over Brown that his team’s “identity is in shambles,” he’s comfortable in challenging whatever players he has healthy to rally and secure what would be an important road victory.
“Our depth will come into play in this game for sure,” Cooley said. “The next guy up is excited to play and run with that opportunity.”
College basketball is a guard’s game and PC’s back-court is ensconced in duct tape right now. Cartwright hasn’t been 100 percent since rolling his ankle in a win over Boston College. The senior point guard serves as the team’s spark but he’s just 1 of 8 with four points over his last two games (URI and Brown). Freshman Makai Ashton-Langford has stepped in and played well at point but Cooley was hoping he could pair both penetrating guards in the same backcourt.
Diallo is the team’s top all-around scorer out of the backcourt. Senior Isaiah Jackson and junior Drew Edwards will be tabbed to pick up major minutes in the backcourt.
“Drew and Isaiah are experienced players. They’ve played in a lot of games,” Cooley said. “Now we need them to play with some confidence and give us some pop.”
Juggling lineups around injuries is never easy but the players Cooley shuttled into the Brown game all were regulars. The change is that some were asked to take on different roles, for longer minutes. That made the coach emphasize after the win that the nonconference schedule remains a developmental period for his team.
“Our team has to play with a little bit more of a purpose,” Cooley said. “We’re trying to find out who we are. That’s what some of these games are for. You’re not going to win all of them and hopefully you don’t lose all of them, but we need to find some space and some rhythm to find out who we’re going to be.”
After fielding several questions about his team’s poor play against the Bears, the coach made clear it’s more important that his team keeps piling up wins than earn style points.
“So many times we as coaches want to look at the negative. I’m not one that dwells on the negative,” Cooley said. “I’m going to look at this first as we won, secondly that we can improve and that we have another game. It’s not the end of the world because we played bad. Perspective is we’re improving and trying to find out who we are and we still have the Big East games to play to improve on.”

Their big(s) are going to be a problem. If we don’t get this one today it’s a big missed opportunity on the road.

Our bigs offer nothing. Play small, hope and pray. Just frustrating that we can't get anything of any substance from the 5 spot.

Young is really bad. Watching him brick hook shots off the backboard is getting old.
Just focus on rebounds. You can't score unless you beat everyone down the court.

Young is flat footed around the hoop. The ball goes up and he watches. No movement to fight for position or challenge a shot.

Somehow young and Jackson regressed.
Watson with some monster dunks, friars playing better and nursing a fragile lead with 10 to go. Heres where games are won or lost.

Better offensive rebounding but missing wide open looks from three Yup, had a chance to push the lead to 8/10. Now down 4.
