That's worth another 1/2 mill from Fr Shanley It's the business of the game..agents, coaches and media all in cahoots Not a knock on Big Ed...it's just the way it is these days IMAGINE...friggin Phil Knight helping to cut down the nets for Oregon YEAH fellow specimens...YOU READ THAT RIGHT so sad Stop it, Ed. If you and your agent are looking for another $500k, then make the call to Father Shanley now, and get the raise out of the way. Honestly, I don't see the value of sending these sorts of comments and potentially casting doubt in the minds of your recruiting prospects. Ed's in the midst of a busy period when transfers or players released from their NLIs could commit - immediately. Beyond that, comments that he'd be crazy not to pick up the phone and listen, could be used by competing coaches and programs, in casting doubt in the minds of the Class of 2017, 2018 and beyond. Things are about to pick up across the recruiting landscape over the coming month. Here are a few dates to keep in mind: This Coming Weekend: Final Four Weekend - The Final Four doubles as a "speed dating service" between schools and some of the hotter coaching prospects. High/Mid-Major dominos will being falling by this time next week; - The next two weeks are an ideal period to chase down kids backing out of NLIs; Transfers and uncommitted 2017 targets. April 6 - 19: Recruiting Period (Class of 2018) April 12 - May 17: Spring Signing Period (Class of 2017) April 21- 23: Evaluation Period (Certified Tournaments) April 28-30: Evaluation Period (Certified Tournaments) Buckle Up

While appreciate what Ed has done for our program and recognize the challenge of replacing him, he's won a single tournament game in 5 years and is adequately paid. If he's looking for more duckets, I'm all set. Anyone can move jobs and make more $$ if that's what they're looking for.
He's been paid. The school has shown support. No need to change anything in th contract. Either he wants to be here or he doesn't.

Thanks for sharing the link.
I listened, and now feel as though Ed didn't go overboard. He stated that "Having a conversation and doing something about it are two different things..." Following up to that remark, he mentioned that he's currently "focused on finding good players so he can "keep his job".
To end the interview, McNabb and Custer were really hamming it up, pimping for Gtown, to which Ed responded "Let's go Friars - Bro"

I just listened to the whole interview. No way Ed will leave PC for G'town.I fully expect him to be at PC for as long as Driscoll and Shanley are around. Guy is refreshing. Rather have him than a liar like Pitino.for example.

The two biggest factors in keeping Coach here will be a continued supportive relationship with the President and AD as well as the ability to land recruits good enough to realize his dream of winning a national title. Obviously money plays a large role as well, but if those first two are in order, the money will take care of itself.
Father Shanley and Bob Driscoll have been terrific in giving Coach the resources he needs to succeed, so as long as the two of them remain in their roles, we don't have to worry about that aspect. Whenever those two move on, it will be imperative to replace them with like minded people who can continue that vision and not revert back to the mentality fostered by Father Smith.
The recruiting piece is more difficult to ensure and the next two classes, especially next year's will have large ramifications. Coach immediately landed a home run class with Dunn, Ledo and Fortune, and followed it up with a decent one that had Austin and Bullock and then a very nice one with Lindsey, Bentil Chukwu and Cartwright. I think those three classes gave him the confidence that he could consistently land top 100 recruits, and get the type of players necessary to become an elite program. The next 3 classes haven't quite measured up to those, though the current freshman as well as Dickens and Watson have potential. I am sure he has been incredibly frustrated about missing out on guys like Gabriel, Mitchell and Ponds, and if he can't land any of his top targets for next year, it would be logical for him to have some doubts if he can consistently recruit at the level he demands. I know we can still bolster the 2017 class at this point, but 2018 is definitely the crucial one. If we can bring in at least 2 of the guys he has been aggressively courting, then I think that keeps him here longer. If we strike out, who knows what that does to his mindset.
I sure hope everyone out there wants Coach to stay for the long haul. He has done such an incredible job in resuscitating our program, and hopefully we are just one great recruiting class away from taking another step forward.

I hate seeing the constant abuse on Fr. Smith. He was the one that made the VERY tough call to can John Marinatto and hire BOB DRISCOLL.... I would get someone harkening back to when Fr. Cunningham rhetorically asked "if we really needed D-1 sports " at PC. That drove me crazy. Smith was NOT Fr. Cunningham. He wanted to see athletics have success. He gets a bad rap for dumping baseball. A move that made sense IMHO. Throw the money at lax...Where PC could actually compete...

birdman, agree, the recruiting aspect is the biggest risk. Really hoping Ed lands some big fish for 2018 or I could also see him getting frustrated.

I know we have the recruiting area which infoman does a great job keeping up to date with player news, but since this is a hot topic here, is this chart accurate, do we lead on some of these guys, anyone missing? www.verbalcommits.com/schools/providence

Father Smith provided zero $ for lack as in no ships, zero. Spending in athletic facilities, zero. Yes he hired BD but Bob was going to leave (applied for San Diego State ) because every decision had to be cleared through Father Smith. We were going nowhere I hate seeing the constant abuse on Fr.
