Today Boeheim got his 1000* victory 😀 With the win against Virginia. They listed his all time record against all opponents and sure enough it is 47-9 against the Friars. 4 of our wins stick out in my mind and I vaguely remember the 5th.
1. Tim Welsh's team jumps out to an 18-0 lead at the dome in the late 90's, leaving the Cuse fans standing through two tv timeouts. Friars go on to cruise to victory.
2. Friars coming storming back from a 17 point 2nd half deficit at the Big East Tournament in 1995. Chroshere has his breakout game. Boeheim fires his glass on the court as Lawrence Moton gets a 5 second call.
3. January 1994. Syracuse comes into the Civic Center ranked in the top 15. Michael Smith breaks the Big East record for most boards in a game with 26. Friars roll by double digits.
4. Feb 2004. Friars click on all cylinders and blowout the 'Cuse at the dunk. This is the 1st of what will go on to be a 6 game Big East winning streak.
5. This is the one I don't have good grasp on... January of 1990, at the Dome Syracuse ranked in top 5? Murdock hits a shot in the closing seconds? Friars win for 1st time ever at the dome by 1.

The discrepancy in our historical success vs. Syracuse and UConn is fascinating.

I was there for the first win at the Dome (for the life of me, I thought it was Conlon who hit the winner). Great night and party after the game at Coleman's Pub in Syracuse while there was a blizzard outside.

The discrepancy in our historical success vs. Syracuse and UConn is fascinating. The "New Big East" was the best thing to ever happen to us.

The discrepancy in our historical success vs. Syracuse and UConn is fascinating. The "New Big East" was the best thing to ever happen to us. Actually think Ed Cooley was the best thing to happen to us. I think Ed would have had us in the mix for tourney bids in the old BE. The last 2 seasons he certainly would have. Many of the teams from the old BE haven't exactly been setting the world on fire lately. Also, if what Walk has said is true, Cooley would be recruiting at an even higher level in the old BE. It was the main reason I was disappointed by the split, I thought we were just about to compete again. That said, the fact that we had a fair amount of success vs. UConn but barely any vs. Syracuse is interesting, which was my original point. Maybe it's the zone?

It's what I was told....and remember he landed dunn/Ledo under the old regime and I believe austin/bullock as well. While I do think we landed about as good as possible, I would've loved to see it play out with the old group.

So Sad
See this is what the cheaters like Boeheim, Flanagan, Roy Williams and the coach at the Yum Center in Louisville aka The House That Whores Built count on, namely; that you will forget
Well Dex never forgets...Zone my arse Yeah a zone executed by the best paid players in the good ole USA

I love the strong anti-cheating sentiment, Dex. It is never easy losing to a team that plays fast and loose with the rules. Anyways, enjoy the Super Bowl....and Go Pats!

UConn has 4 championships, Syracuse has one. We had success vs. UConn. We did not vs. Syracuse. Not sure how many different ways I can make the same irrelevant point.

Guessing a lot of that came in the fisrt 10 years of the BE when we were essentially even with uconn. Agree that even in our good years cuse still managed to pumell us. Also uconns been known to throw in a stinker year every 4 or 5. How many times have we taken back the "team of NE" only to watch uconn cut down the nets two years later. Finally we had ryan gomes who didnt mind sticking it up uconns ass. I still put his soph yr at uconn as the best game ive seen by a friar.

I actually think Tim Welsh had a fairly good record vs. UConn. By good, I mean under .500 but not terrible. Even during his later years I remember Dwain Williams lighting them up. Agree on Gomes, I was at that game in CT.

Man that is some high praise for Ryan and well deserved methinks.
He and Cotton must have been two of the hardest working kids in PC history...the improvement from HS to PC graduation is off the charts..
Believe it or not, Maliek White has an astronomically better than handle than Cotton had as a Frosh. Hope Abounds
