A really positive outlook on the Friars upcoming season.

Wouldn't hate it if he spelled Henton's first name correctly...

Without seeing them play, I have to admit that I'm thinking this will be a 6-12 to 8-10 year for the Friars in the Big East. Beyond KD, we have some nice parts but the lack of size and questionable depth of this squad will be issues at some point during the upcoming season. Also, I think we lost a terrific bench coach in Coach Simon. I look forward to a run and gun style and anticipate that it will camouflage our weaknesses during the early portion of the schedule.
But it's tough to maintain that style of play as the season wears on and a fast-break offense typically starts with a rebound. I don't like to be a downer but we had significant losses, underwhelming recruiting (on paper), and some other teams in the conference have made some nice strides.
I hope I am wrong but I think the NIT will be our post-season landing spot.

There are many question marks on paper, but we have Kris Dunn, arguably a top 5 player in the country, along with a roster filled with quality size. In my opinion, there are enough parts for Cooley to pump out another NCAA team. I think the hype of Kris Dunn will play to our advantage come selection time.
Yes, tough losses across the board, but I think that KD + our recruits would be better than any roster minus KD (with Chukwu and a top 100 PG coming in to hypothetically replace Dunn).
Maybe I am placing too much hope in Dunn, but I think he's that good, and he has the attitude you want to see in your star player.

Not a fan of this analysis. We have far bigger questions than how far a step Dunn or Bentil will make. And I've never favored write-ups that ask how you replace this guy or that guy. No team replaces a particular star player one for one, so why ask the damn question. (It becomes a matter of redistributing those minutes, those contributions through other players and/or through an alternate style of play or system.) As for the 5 questions I'd name right now:
1. How significant a contribution can we get from Bullock and in what particular areas will he give us a plus performance?
2. Can the new shooters defend well enough to take the playing-time bungee cord off their back? (Can they keep Lobamba on the pine?)
3. Can Ed Cooley and staff effectively coach a team that will be out-manned in the front-court nearly every game played after Christmas? In other words, we've seen them coach a guard-thin team, can they coach a front-court thin one?
4. Which newcomer emerges as the potential next great Friar? Let's say it this way: who has a Vincent Council freshman year emergence? A Henton splash is maybe too much to ask, don't even say Ryan Gomes. But which kid steps to the front and makes us all say: "Wow, it's gonna suck when that kid transfers". (Pardon the cynicism)
5. How does Ed handle the emotions of such a transitional season while having on his roster a once-in-a-lifetime kid playing his final season at PC? Yikes, talk about stress. He's gonna be wound tight, could he blow and lose the young ones? (I know I could.)

What a friggin great post Rock.
Coaching a Thin backcourt vs thin frontcourt
Break-out Frosh hopefully and then the lurking Transfer concern
Cooley's stress level having an AA Lottery Pick, NIT fears of the fans, and the critical replenishment of the roster in 2016/2017

If the newcomers learn one thing from watching and playing with Kris Dunn, I hope it is rebounding. Being more perimeter-oriented with a smaller squad and presumably better shooters this year, my hunch is that there will be long rebounds up for grabs. These essentially become 50/50 balls and KD gets at them with his quickness and long arms. His rebounding efforts will, hopefully, be contagious.
My biggest fear this year will be of the quick whistle on the defensive end. Our guards will have to be picking and poking at the opponent's big men, so early foul trouble could pave the way for some long nights.
The staff will coach to the strengths of the team for sure, so it will be interesting to see what this different brand of basketball will look like!

OK rock fair enough and well played as our deficiencies glare at us from day one. Truth is we MUST have an emergent Frosh - MUST. And as pointed out in a different thread, the neo-prescient tweet "Bullock can be there." That speaks to our significant needs - as we HOPE Bullock is there, healthy and ready, no shrinking violet from day one.
My fave to rave is Cartwright even with his limitations IF his shot develops he can be a significant difference maker with Dunn but again our limitations underneath are undeniable.
I am not concerned with a Cooley juggernaut - that is almost a given with today's coddled players. I think he stays the course and reminds these lads to MAN UP.

I would say the limitations in the paint will place added emphasis on Cartwright's ability to hold his own on defense, and I think this team is going to need KC to get involved because KD cannot do it all himself for 40 mins. One of my top questions..

My Questions:
1. Can Bentil stay on the floor and out of foul trouble? 2. How much does the new 30 second shot clock help us with a smaller, quicker team? 3. Who develops into our 2nd steady option? Bentil? Bullock Lindsey? 4. Do we have any Laska's, Kabba's, Anrin's who as Frosh all shot well from deep? 5. Can we rebound the basketball in crunch time to limit 2nd and 3rd opportunities when we need a stop?

yankee asks?
1. Can Bentil stay on the floor and out of foul trouble? 2. How much does the new 30 second shot clock help us with a smaller, quicker team? 3. Who develops into our 2nd steady option? Bentil? 1. Bentil better 2. prescient question. 3. no clue but clearly needed. 4. Fazekas is one that I have been told - "kid can shoot' 5. probably not...(unless Dunn controls his fouls and is on the floor - kid can rebound)

Wow...I can tell it's summer, as my brain has gone on vacation. I completely forgot about the new shot clock...that should help us this year.

The new shot clock will help this team big time this year. With the guard depth I would expect a lot of pressing, running and shooting threes.

Dangerous formula based on BE experience when compared to the rest of the conference...
