Well said rock - fair comment yet I also sense building frustration among more than a few re: LaFluer at least with recruiting. Truth is, as you say, we don't know and his value to the overall staff may be significant; maybe not. Just saying as fans that perception is a lingering one when compared to say the departed Bob Simon.
At the end of the day it will be up to Ed as to the shapm of the staff - how he can fold in Shamm is a tough one should he bring Battle into the fold.

I will rephrase what a well respected poster PM'd me earlier: It's easy to recruit at Kansas. It's easy to recruit at Syracuse. And regretfully, its easy to recruit at UConn. I do not advocate hiring assistants from any of those types of schools. PC should only hire hungry lions. Oddly, hiring staff from those types of schools is problematic. With them, you need not refine your sales pitch every day in order to get a return phone call. By reputation Jeff Battle is such a lion. He fought tooth & nail against Duke and North Carolina day-in and day-out. To question LaFleur's success as a recruiter is actually an argument from silence. Ie: show me his successes out on the trail. Kyron was almost an anomaly. You can see that in how fast the deal went down. More to come.

I was not in that cheering section. Was does stick in my head is an exchange I had with one of the UConn interlopers we had over at BigEastBoards (I wish I could retrieve it!). We were still in the Keno Error then and discussing LaFleur, Tom Moore, etc. When I specifically asked about LaFleur, his reaction was "Ugh! You can have him." Two other things to consider: 1) There's a reason why Calhoun was passing over him in line. 2) He was Cooley's 3rd choice for the job. (Battle was #3)

I am still amazed Donovan seems to be heading to OKC. But, EC has some history w Donovan. Anyone, like say Anthony Grant, a possiblity to be back on the market. I am sure Billy D. would take him to OKC but maybe he would rather stay in college game.

Walk....YOU remember some posts from years past? Get a life! Do you constantly bring up statements your wife made 15 years ago that she liked you?? Because if she is anything like the people on this board, she HAS to be sick of your schtick too! "Honey, back in 1996 when I played power forward in the Over 250 Lbs Men's League, you told me you were impressed that my 3 inch vertical wasn't my only 3 incher".....

...never had an opinion on andre pro or con....

I think a key in this discussion is that I believe we can point to concrete reasons as to why Bob Simon will be missed. But can we point to concrete reasons why LaFleur would be missed? As I said above. An argument for LaFleur is arguably an argument from silence.

I do not think that we should run LaFleur out of town, but when I initially brought him up, I was only trying to mention that we have established veteran coaches with all of the necessary connections. I love that we have some great young coaches that only need an opportunity, and I do not like the idea of passing them over for a veteran, when we already have these veteran guys on staff!
I think this staff should be able to make adjustments internally. If Cooley thinks he needs to bring in Battle, then to me, he does not have the confidence that need needs with his current veteran coaches. If that is the case, I hope he uses this opportunity to shake things up the way he wants it.

Please recall Tim Welsh did the "move everyone up" approach several times and wound up with a very weak staff in the end which contributed to his coaching demise.
