Simon has come a long way in the eyes of most of our astute fans. If my memory serves me correctly, most of our fans did not originally want Simon to be part of Cooley's staff. The battle cry was all about keeping Chris Driscoll. Then it was all about Carmen Massercialla (sp?) being the lead recruiter. NO ONE on these boards wanted Simon. His recruiting acumen was adamantly questioned by those "in the know" as well as recruiting contacts. Obviously, you were all wrong about Bob Simon. So, my suggestion is, let's not jump into Fire, Shoot, Aim approach for the new addition to the staff. Let the professionals handle yet.

I'll admit that I wasn't thrilled at Simon's coming to PC. That was because he had never recruited in the big leagues before. But he totally proved me wrong, and anytime that works to PC's benefit, I'm overjoyed. I'm not a fan who needs needs to be right, just happy.
BTW, the professionals are handling it. We as fans can't control or anything but discuss our thoughts and opinions, and that's what the purpose of a message board is all about.
Lastly, '71 mentioned Anthony Grant. While that may be a pipe-dream, I'm going sit here and daydream about that for a while.

Driscoll and the staff had worked on N.Noel for several years. Nobody wanted to see that vanish. it was nothing against Simon who most didn't know anything about.

For the record, I am not trying to sell Bob Simon short. I know that it will not be easy to replace him. Cooley needs to assess his entire staff and he needs to determine who is capable of filling whatever roles (which I am sure he is doing).
I remember not knowing a thing about Bob Simon and being unimpressed when the staff was formed (until LaFleur). I am throwing my thoughts out there. I care more about Cooley properly accessing the situation than I care about him hiring the guy I want. I just happen to think that he has some great internal candidates to complete this puzzle of his.

People in the other board are saying they hear that Battle is a done deal. Craig smartly suggested that maybe Battle was the one who spoke to The NCST transfer since it would only be a short drive for him.

Mike White gets Florida job so I assume Anthony Grant is available or goes to Okl. City by default.

I bet Ed Cooley is paying close attention to Anthony Grant. That guy was basically in a position to pick whatever job he wanted, he goes to the SEC, and the rest is history.
There are definitely programs and opportunities out there that may ultimately be too good to refuse, but at this time, I am not worried about average to below average BCS coaching jobs.

Louisiana Tech going after Anthony Grant would sound like a logical move for both school and coach to me.
