. ...and Gomes moving to sf killed his rebounding...did not make us better.... His rebounding went from 9.4 to 8.2. But his assists went up by 1 per game while turnovers stayed the same. I think the team was not as good as the previous year.

Couple of things. I think there is a huge myth that the 05 team did lousy because Gomes was away from the basket too much. The truth is that team, with Gomes playing more 3 than 4 was excellent offensively. It was also horrific defensively. We could not play zone because we had nothing in the interior and we could not play man because DMAC and Kotti could not guard anyone. It was a mess of a defensive team without MD and Kabba and Sanders. We get more athletic by default next year. The 3 guys that are gone were all good players who weren't ahletic. The open minutes all go to guys that are more athletic. I am hoping Council is the class of the incomers and gives us another guy that can create with Dunn on the floor beside him. But just being more athletic does not make us better. The one ship left has to go to NWG is we get him. Having a mcd aa take over for Dunn in 2 years is the perfect way to ensure the program continuing upward trend. We have 2 incoming guards. I don't see a good 5th year option. If Owens is a no go this year, we're gonna need to win small and fast. Big and slow didn't exactly knock the cover off the ball last year, so I am not too worried. A: Any thoughts on Council vs Edwards?? You are high on Council but isn't Edwards the higher rated( for what that is worth)?? For some reason, I can't get excited about Edwards. He doesn't seem like he has any explosiveness or fifth gear when I watch him. He might end up being a solid player for us, but I just see a little more upside in Council at this point. Pure conjecture, but that's all I have...

#2: Only if Arthur Parks gets out of the Skating Friar suit and actually does something to promote Dunn and the Friars... This made my week...Arthur Parks...he does not like me for some reason. Anyway...I think Alex Owens is the big focus for me. And I take it that is the reason for wanting a big man from Rock and others. I agree with it. I have been hearing different scenarios on Owens. I think in the end he plays in a Friar uniform. The big question, however, is when? I think another guard would be great. The big thing is Dunn is here and that changes the back-court outlook tremendously. ' I would love for Williams-Goss to come in here and be ready for 2016. He would be a great Shammgod product. But if we are looking at this strictly from a high school recruiting standpoint, I think its easier to see Cooley landing a 2016 PG to come in than it is to bring in a 2015 PG who has to maybe deal with a RS season. Undercover says UNLV or PC for Williams-Goss (sorry if this was posted elsewhere)

I'll limit my observations to Shammgod. He has become a fantastic teacher. Been doing it for years now at every stop of his journey, such as Chinese players when he played there. Yes, he is still well known to kids today. Shammgod working out our guards and perhaps Shammgod on recruiting trips to visit targeted guards, strikes me as very much a winning proposition; something we should try to make possible. I suspect virtually any program in the country would gladly hire the man with a reputation among many as "best handle ever". Once he has his degree soon, he could be a hot commodity. People know how much he helped Cotton and Dunn. He's a feather in any program's cap. He has stated he wants into college coaching or training NBA players. He will be a success at either.
I suspect both sides want to see Shammgod on the PC bb staff. I think we will hear good news here. I believe Cooley knows Shammgod would be a coup for any program. I'm convinced right here is where Shammgod wants to continue his next life chapter. And I think his hire would be huge. For recruiting and development of future guards. Cotton is returning to be worked out by Shammgod. We need to keep Shammgod here; he is a treasure not to be overlooked.

This seems too easy...if Cooley is as enamored with the entire staff as we are led to believe....why not move everyone up,a spot on the food chain? Blarney moves into Simons spot with sham into blaneys.....

Walk, I sense that Simon had a well honed set of niche skills on the recruiting path (talent evaluation, relationship builder, Mid West contacts) that differentiated him among his peers on the PC staff. My guess is that Ed must be looking for someone who would complement himself and others on the staff, as well as Simon did.

Fair point walk but I agree with 82 here...let's see how this plays out as perhaps Cooley can work out a role for Shamm while also keeping everyone happy, agree?

Is there a limit to the amount of paid staff a team can carry?

I think it's basically 3 assistants and a director of ops....although we've had "consultants" and video guys so who knows....I thought there was an issue with blaney on the recruiting trail initially....but if we truly think sham is still the household name, why not have him and fifi handle the recruiting duties...

My understanding is that there is a limit to who can actively recruit and perhaps perform other game specific functions but I think the support staff is limited only by $$$ - hearing Duke, Louisville and others have quite a long list of additional staffers on hand. Among the 450 or so pages of the NCAA Division 1 Manual would be the specifics in section 11 - it is restrictive as to what additional staffers can and cannot do - and that could impact on a role for Shamm going forward : grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/locl/genrel/auto_pdf/2014-15/misc_non_event/2014-15-ncaa-division-1-manual.pdf

Obviously every staff has assistants that are stronger on recruiting and others stronger on coaching. Simon seemed to have been strong on both aspects. I would assume the problem with Sham would be he would have few if any contacts in the recruiting world. So EC probably has to look at the remaining assistants and see if they could sustain the recruiting and add Sham or does he have to go out and find a primary recruiter to supplement the holdovers.

So we'd prefer sham over Blaney?

Everyone wants sham on staff...I've read he'd be aces on the recruiting trail but doesn't have the contacts....which means we need him in house....if we're not going to move everyone up the line it's got to be someone.....who's it going to be dex?

IMHO, Sham logically moves into Mike Jackson's spot. However, I also want Jackson on staff, he has paid his dues. Trouble is, I also want an ace recruiter on staff...enter Jeff Battle. I've run out of chairs in the musical chairs...
