Why not?
1. We all tend to see the loss of Bob Simon from the perspective of potential new additions but while you're looking in that direction, be careful for the no-look pass and the impact his departure has on our incoming freshman class and the three key rising sophomores. This worries me a little bit.
2. Dunn's "done" his part in paying tribute to the program by returning for his junior year. The program now needs to do their part by spending the cash and creative capital on developing a Dunn Heisman publicity campaign that spares no expense. The kid needs to be promoted like he was a USC tailback in the 70's, 80's.
3. When Ryan Gomes returned for his final year it was widely known that the season would be about him fixing his NBA limitations, namely perimeter shooting. This hurt the Friars that season, no doubt in my mind. Interestingly, if Kris decides to turn his final season into an NBA Correctol prescription I think it will actually HELP the program. Less turnovers and better shooting helps Kris with NBA scouts AND with PC's team fortunes......completely opposite of Ryan's final campaign.
4. I hear talk we'll be "far more athletic" next year and I think this is overstated. Yeah, Harris and CD weren't athletic but is Bullock really an athletic upgrade? Are any of the new recruits truly more athletic? I mean, Dunn ain't getting more athletic and neither is Bentil, PC or Jalen. More experienced? Yes. More athletic? Not sure I see that.
5. Bob Simon was an epic relationship builder & talent evaluator. He had his geographic strike zone (mid-westish) and his evaluation DNA types (see: Henton, Ladonte) but make no mistake, he knew what he liked and how he could spot it and bond with it. His replacement has to be able to do the same but in geographic areas not yet Friar strongholds. Hoping we get that guy.
6. Are we all being a little too sentimentally drawn to the powers and abilities of Shammgod? Seems to me like we are.
7. Please, please, please, just one more recruit that can suit up and help next season, just one. Preferably an upperclassman. I really can't take seeing extended minutes for Labomba, Cartwright or any underclassman better suited for our October/November/Decemeber schedule than our January/February/March schedule.
(Please excuse typos. I'm on an iPad, late at night, along way from Friartown.)

Rock, #4 I question the "more athletic" as well, but do see potential in an area in which PC was woeful last year-shooting. Good shooting can cover up many warts on the basketball court. I also am intrigued to see what we actually have in Bullock.
#6 Shamm may be getting too much love, but I have to think his influence on Dunn played at least some part in Kris's decision to return for one more year.
#7 I would love to see the addition of one seasoned player as well. Watching Carlino shoot the ball for Marquette made me wonder how many more assists Dunn would have had last season.

#7-Agreed, and I'd like a big body. PC may foul out many times and we have no big back up. I'm talking minimum 6'9" who can fill the lane.

Glad you did rock – long overdue I say
1. We all tend to see the loss of Bob Simon from the perspective of potential new additions but while you're looking in that direction, be careful for the no-look pass and the impact his departure has on our incoming freshman class and the three key rising sophomores. This worries me a little bit.
Fair comment – Bob was a stellar recruiter but much, much more as an infrastructure guy, the role he will now assume down in ‘Bama making well deserved big bucks.
Guessing that had to be part of the whole package Cooley presented to Kris and family – he will fill seats; they will be promoting.
Agree 100%.
We will have to be and Bentil is seen as a big part of that; Bullock’s rep is as a versatile wing man with size – yet to be seen but that was how he was going when he dominated during the, (non-competitive), trip to Italy last year.
Buzz is Battle – if yes and he still has a fire in his belly we will be more than well served as his reputation is stellar…
6. Are we all being a little too sentimentally drawn to the powers and abilities of Shammgod? Seems to me like we are.
NO WAY…just look at conversion of Bryce Cotton from combo to PG as exhibit #1; now he returns to PC this summer for more Shamming??? The cachet with Shamm is huge as he truly does have a legendary place even to this day with the younger kids thanks to that viral you-tube crossover; besides, he matured, returned, hit the classroom and he can articulate that with players. Undeniably his future either here or elsewhere is right there…
7. Please, please, please, just one more recruit that can suit up and help next season, just one. Preferably an upperclassman. I really can't take seeing extended minutes for Labomba, Cartwright or any underclassman better suited for our October/November/Decemeber schedule than our January/February/March schedule.
Rajay Bullock (we pray)

Yes we need a shooter, but if Williams-Goss tells Ed he wants to be a Friar this weekend, he gets the last a holly and we take our chances that Council and Edwards will be an upgrade from Lindsey/ Cartwright of this past season.

Nailed it rock...
..although Gomes had to basically had to show nba SF skills when the team deperstely needed him around the basket...dunn just has to improve pg skills...
..and as everyone knows, the walk loves the flex and depending on council/edwards still thinks that's our best shot for most of our roster....it limits dunn...SO we'll find out...
Bonc - cotton was a pg in Hs...now I do think shams life experience is a huge asset when working with these guys and he's seen it all....wouldn't look for jr or chambers to start crossing people over next winter though...

Couple of things.
I think there is a huge myth that the 05 team did lousy because Gomes was away from the basket too much. The truth is that team, with Gomes playing more 3 than 4 was excellent offensively. It was also horrific defensively. We could not play zone because we had nothing in the interior and we could not play man because DMAC and Kotti could not guard anyone. It was a mess of a defensive team without MD and Kabba and Sanders.
We get more athletic by default next year. The 3 guys that are gone were all good players who weren't ahletic. The open minutes all go to guys that are more athletic. I am hoping Council is the class of the incomers and gives us another guy that can create with Dunn on the floor beside him. But just being more athletic does not make us better.
The one ship left has to go to NWG is we get him. Having a mcd aa take over for Dunn in 2 years is the perfect way to ensure the program continuing upward trend. We have 2 incoming guards. I don't see a good 5th year option.
If Owens is a no go this year, we're gonna need to win small and fast. Big and slow didn't exactly knock the cover off the ball last year, so I am not too worried.

Rock,
As always, enjoy your observations. Beyond insightful, they are also pretty balanced: never too high or never too low.
Re: Gomes. While he became a proficient outside threat, I recall often begging the him to spend more time inside.
Trust Cooley and the staff but I desperately want a 5th year to contribute next year as well. If they have to forfeit that option to secure Williams Goss, it will be painful to think it was for Chambers. Not a fan of brizzing and understood Ed needed another guard on the roster last year but it will be painful nonetheless.

My friend texted me a pic of the Friartown bus on 5th Avenue today. I was wondering why the bus was in town and figured one of the Friars teams was visiting St. John's (Track, Softball, Lacrosse or Tennis).
Meanwhile, my wife's aunt is in my apartment. She is in town for her annual "art club" trip from RI. About 30 minutes later she says, "oh, guess what, I came down on the official Friar bus....".
Didn't realize they rented the bus out. Guess it makes sense.

A: Any thoughts on Council vs Edwards?? You are high on Council but isn't Edwards the higher rated( for what that is worth)??

#2: Only if Arthur Parks gets out of the Skating Friar suit and actually does something to promote Dunn and the Friars...

That Rob Sanders early departure was a big blow to TW (not to mention Gerald Brown and Dwight Brewington).

more athletic next year....sure....is Lindsey a better athlete than henton?... By miles....doesn't make us better unless he's willing to make plays....still see dribble penetration as a major issue next year....although have read bullock can play some 2 so maybe not....
...and Gomes moving to sf killed his rebounding...did not make us better....
