...For this is why why the Ivy or Patriot league champions should continue to receive a automatic bid to the dance. Tom Izzo and others, need pay attention to the direction they want to take this COLLEGE game.

Most of the time, the best players and the starters will stay at high major schools with money. The schools like Seton Hall and Boston College with supposedly little NIL are in a lot of trouble.
It’s hard for me to get too worked up over guys looking to leave when they fall to 9th or 10th in rotation (or lower)

Most of the guys who are leaving their high major schools aren’t playing. Like I don’t care that Santoro left, he wants to play and he should seek out that opportunity. These guys who are going to 4 or 5 schools usually aren’t impact players or have had their coaches fired |

It's kinda like the red flag raised by players who transfer several times at the high school level. |

Coaches have contracts. They also often have to pay to get out of their contracts. Colleges, on the other hand, extend free educations to the players. Additionally, colleges have to pay those players a nominal stipend. Nowadays, those educations cost the normal student $85k a year. ADDITIONALLY, now NIL money is available to them, sometimes allowing those players to earn more than many of their alum. And we don't make them sign a non-compete! To allow them the freedom to bounce around from school to school might benefit those players but it often hurts the programs they leave, many times because they didn't receive the gratification of immediate and unearned playing time. If the players want that freedom, why not force them to sign a contract as well. Say if they leave they forfeit a percentage of the educational cost they were provided as well as their nominal stipend. And maybe a percentage of that new NIL deal they'll sign. I think it has to be a two-way street. Teach them about the real world. We are an educational entity, aren't we? PIZZA, SODA, GRINDERS!!! |

How does the NCAA factor the graduation rate numbers with a player going to so many schools over 4 or 5 years. Does the original school get docked by not having a frosh graduate from their school? How many credits for the student get transferred? I wonder how Western Civ credits at PC would transfer to say a state U? Maybe it doesn't matter anymore. Crazy times in college sports.

Life in college basketball hasn't always been grand. The NBA wouldn’t allow kids with NBA potential (and the need for $) to enter the draft, and the NCAA didn’t allow for them to get as little as a comped dinner. Yes, they could have gone pro in a foreign country, but that path never caught traction. Players found ways to get compensated, as they should have been, and the NCAA and schools have been playing from behind. Don’t hate the player, hate the game. At least in my opinion. |

Look at it a different way. When was the last PC kid that had to sit out a semester due to poor grades. Look at any of the BE kids you see having to sit for poor grades. Somehow kids either get into a school or their grades are so bad they have to go to junior college before a school will take them. The days of a kid having to sit out a semester to get their grades seem very rare these days. Even the days of freshmen sitting a year to get grades up before playing sophomore year are long gone. I guess today's college kids are just smarter these days.........................

I was great friends with their freshman year RA who became my roommate our senior year, and I played on the intramural "A League" team on which they occasionally participated that year. So, what I mean is that they missed out then when they'd be NIL superstars now even if Prop 48 still existed! Simpkins was not Prop 48. Michael Smith and Phelps were the Props |

I think today's situation is nearly the full opposite from then in so many ways, which was my point in posting something, which I hope others will continue to discuss further. Why does a full-ride scholarship to a college not mean one isn't being paid to play already?
