A one-year on one-year comparison isn't necessarily the cleanest, as a 1st round pick will have a guaranteed 3-year deal...

A one-year on one-year comparison isn't necessarily the cleanest, as a 1st round pick will have a guaranteed 3-year deal... Yes…which is why NbA teams want young first rounders. If they have to pay them for 3 years, they can take a long term approach for development. The problem for Carter is his age. If he’s a late first round pick, he’s not going to a playoff team where he can be a rotation guy. And those teams might want youth to give them more development time. There may be some uncertainty as to where he is drafted….which is why he might stick around.

Have to think if he stays and has a similar year to this year, he is a first team All American and a lottery pick almost guaranteed.

Good post on the NBA guaranteed 1st round money. 1 yr NIL for BEPOY at Providence likely low 6 figures (my guess). Even if a wealthy donor pitched in a million and it all went to DC (highly doubtful and honestly too much for any one player), he'd still be leaving 5 to 10 million in guaranteed NBA money by coming back.
I just don't see any upside for him to come back, unless he's been told he is not 1st round. How can he top what he did plus it's supposedly a weak draft class. Insurance protects from injury but if he has a slightly less good year combined with a stronger class then what?
That said I'd be thrilled if he returns.

Mid to high if he were to return. Obviously not nba first round $.

I think the question to return or not is solely based on not being a 1st rd draft choice, which pending how many euro's and underclassmen come out, would push Carter down. I love the player, but seriously doubt his 1st round lock. it would not surprise me that he does have very good representation/advisors given his father, and he is being told such. coming back with the opportunity to play into a lotto pick is his incentive, not the NIL money, which dont get me wrong, is nice, but as you say pales to NBA $$ again, I love Dec the player for PC, but I question his game in the nba given his shooting and style of play

Imagine if the writers at the beginning of the year got it right and had Carter as the preseason 3rd team All American instead of Hopkins. Carter would be 1st team this year and a lottery pick. Amazing how that works.

i don't think the nba scouts give a crap about preseason aa Maybe not but they do care about All Americans at the end of season so you obviously missed my point.

your point is if carter was first team aa, he'd be a lottery pick? you better tell this year's first team AAs.
