1. Is it possible that Alpha Diallo has a transformation that approximates what Ben Bentil did in his 2nd year in the Big East? That’s a wide projection but I’m thinking it’s not that farfetched.
2. If we have the kind of year I think we can have then we may face a coaching staff opening next spring. Not at the top of course, but someone could get sprung. Hope EC is prepared.
3. Anyone else notice that Danny Ainge builds depth in his draft board by stacking it with formerly high ranked high schoolers? It’s like he almost dismisses all other metrics and goes right back to the MAA game to fill in deeper draft sections. Slick MO.
4. The next PC commit I would like to see is another shooter. Reeves started the run on shooters. I’d rather grab another one before any other position. Of course, our history of recruiting fictional shooters has me worried. I have a feeling Reeves is the real deal. Get me another just in case Ed. Please.
5. I often find myself looking at this year’s PC roster in relation to the ‘13/’14 edition that won the BET. Both had some upper-class leadership mixed with a band of precocious underclassman. Not a perfect fit due to the attrition of that former roster but a close enough look in some areas. I think this year’s team is deeper, better defensively and relatively more experienced, BUT the BET champs had better top-end scoring in Cotton and Henton. That's HUGE in big games.
6. Roster depth doesn’t necessarily mean we stop creating the next Dennis Rodman out of each front-line we face this season. Somebody has to own the glass for us AND be able to stay in the rotation. Tricky.
7. The story of this year’s Friars is seeing Lindsey, Bullock and Cartwright reach their senior year. Had Coleman, Fortune and Chukwu (never mind Ledo, Bentil, Austin or Johnson) done that we’d have traveled a different path in recent years.
8. The Celtics have added the kind of depth and roster flexibility that Bill Belichick would love but it may well strangle Brad Stevens. Less might be more in the NBA Danny.
9. Let’s face it, this entire season is a $2 lottery ticket winner if we only make it to the 2nd round of the tournament. For it to be a meaningful winning ticket (meeting Ed Cooley’s vision for the Friars in the process) the team must play in the Sweet-16.
10. And the key to the Friars getting beyond the 1st weekend of the tournament is seeding. Plain and simple. The team must be a 6 seed or better and that comes down to NOT having a Brown, BC, DePaul vomit game on our transcript.
