From out of no where, I think we make the Top 25 in either the AP or USA Today/ESPN. Just a gut feeling.
At the very least, top 30.
Don't shoot me for being a crazy fan.

I am friggin' livid!
AP has us #33 behind #31 Seton Hall. And USA Today/ESPN doesn't even mention us but they do rank Creighton #33 and Vermont #35!
I feel like Rodney Dangerfield! F both rating groups. Now there's some bulletin board stuff.

Why the big concern on ranking.. Let's play game by game and MARCH into Madness on a winning note and be the talk of top 64 teams ass one that is playing well End of the year is what counts

While I always value your input, Backcourt Joe, many of us feel we deserve some national (rank-wise) recognition. NOW!!! These are our kids and they've played their azzes off to finish the regular season. VERMONT??? Give me a break.
I hope this isn't the kind of respect we get on Sunday evening!

Where were we before? You don't just jump into the top 25 over 10-15 teams that may have been ahead. The path is always into the 'others receiving votes' first, them from there up as others lose. I looked, we weren't in ORV last week so no chance of top 25. Now we're in the ORV.....unofficially ranked 33 as you said. IF they hold another poll next week after we advance to BET finals we might get in, again, pending others in front lose. Now if they can get into the big tourney and win a game or two, even have a good showing they should enter the preseason next year ranked. Same roster. And that is the key to gaming the system a bit. Xavier who has a much worse resume than we do has a higher RPI because they started the season ranked in top 10, based on last year's season and tourney. Easier to stay there than work your way in.

Dmac, in my original post I said "out of nowhere" referring to no previous ranking. That's why I said I'd accept a top 30 instead of a top 25. With the #33 from AP I'll go with that. But the USA Today/ESPN snub doesn't cut it. They list 44 teams with votes and Vermont comes in at #35. That is WRONG! The Big East was just ranked on MSN.com as the 3rd strongest conference in the country. And we're the 3rd seed!!!!!
We need to stand up for our Friars and Coach Cooley for playing, down the stretch, better than any other Big East team. We want to be nationally mentioned NOW so we don't get screwed on Sunday by losing Thursday evening.

The USA Today/ESPN poll is the coaches poll. 32 Division I coaches. They're listed at the bottom of this page. To get any votes at all, the voter has to think you belong in the Top 25. 25 points for first place, 1 point for 25th. I realize we all know that, but all not getting any points in the poll just means is that none of the coaches thought we belonged in the top 25. It does not mean they don't think we're top 30. They don't vote for top 30. The rankings after top 25 are not really valid to use in the sense we're doing it. In other words, while they are 33rd in the AP poll, it really just means one or more writers, who vote in the AP poll, did think we belonged in the top 25. But, in both polls, they only vote for top 25. It could very well be the case that many coaches think we're top 30. They just don't vote for the top 30. Anyway, here are the coaches that vote, and their teams, bottom of the poll. It's not quite the lack of respect it's being seen as, IMHO. Many coaches may feel we're top 30, we can't know..... www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/rankings/_/poll/2/week/18/seasontype/2

The #3 BE had a top 5 team, two between 6-15 and one between 16-20... That ain't the BE today.
33rd is pretty damn good for this group.
Hope to god we win thurs....

Vermont with 6 points means one coach could have thought they should be ranked #20, it could mean 6 coaches thought they should be ranked #25, or the combinations between. Somewhere between 1 and 6 coaches gave them votes for the top 25. Seeing them as ranked #35 is a little deceiving in that respect. I do the same thing. I look at the AP poll, and see us as #33, but I understand it's really just between 1-5 writers who ranked us in their top 25.
