Dunn's National POY is slipping away quickly, especially since Ben Bentil is this team's Most Valuable Player in my opinion. That's not meant to be a shot against Dunn but more of a realization that without Bentil, we have nothing down low.

I'd say Dunn is officially out of the POY race after DePaul and today. He really shouldn't be in the mix at this point.
The lack of consistency and mistakes is just difficult to get around and to understand. Thinking of Cotton's senior year and Gomes's junior year, they were just amazingly consistent in production and didn't make many mistakes.
I do understand they didn't impact the game defensively like Dunn does, so that's a big difference.

I've been killing Dunn this week but our supporting cast outside of Bentil is terrible. It's amazing that the two of them have us ranked.

Fair point, Gomes had some really solid supporting pieces around him his junior year.

Fair point, Gomes had some really solid supporting pieces around him his junior year. He also turned into a 3 point shooter his junior year and his rebounding, FG % and FT% all dropped. But his scoring went up because he was a pretty good 3pt shooter that year.

When do they vote? I'm not seeing it but suppose we went on a huge run and through the BET and or more importantly in the big tournament, should we make it. If they vote after all that then he can still win the award. As of today he's not close. But if he's fallen off in 2 games what is to say he can't get back on track with 7 games, the BET and possible NCAAT games left before it is decided.
As disappointed as I am in his play lately, we wouldn't be here without him, As we can see when he stinks we stink.

Draif I praised you in the other thread and was about to whack you on that Dunn comment ...that was until you posted again and agreed with pc88
To look at Dunn or Ben in a vacuum without factoring in some of the awful poor excuses of offensive basketball players they have the mis-fortune
to be on the floor with lately is unfair. Sonar made that pretty clear today. Kris is 9 for his last 35 ...does anyone here think he's that poor an offensive player? Ben was reduced to waving at Reynolds as he scored because he was on one leg with no lateral mobility...anyone here think Ben is that bad defensively...or getting 2 rebs
This team is a mess offensively.

I get it. At this point the supporting cast are such easy targets on message boards I can't even bother to talk about it anymore. Some of their limitations simply amaze me, such as an obvious play today. My point was at Dunn's best, when he is clicking on both sides of the floor, he's better than Gomes or Cotton. However, it seems that we only see this about once every four games. And at times we see something like we've seen for the past 80 minutes. We just haven't seen that out of previous AA candidates. With Gomes and Cotton we could almost pencil in a certain number at the lower end of their averages and that's the minimum of what we were going to get. Can't do that with Dunn, it might be a triple double or it might be 2 assists, 8 turnovers and a bunch of missed free throws. If it's the surrounding cast, then I guess that's unfortunate. I didn't expect this team to come close to being ranked in the Top 10 this year. I did think Dunn would be a bit more consistent and thought he'd clean up the turnovers more.

After reading that Jay Wright called Bentil our best player, for the first time I'm starting to think it's actually possible that Dunn doesn't get BE POY unless he finishes the regular season strongly.
I didn't consider this possible just a couple weeks ago.

Bentil is our best player. Dunn may be a better pro but Bentil is our best college player.

Reality is dunns had some pretty bad games that he was able to save with some lucky shots (creighton / butler)... He's had some terrible turnovers in the last couple minutes that have been forgiven with a following play and it was bound to catch up to us.
