Whatever. That league has become a joke in so many ways. It's no longer about what you've done at each level...It's all about hype and "potential" (size) rather than a demonstrated high skill level, Basketball IQ, and resume. At this point I'm not sure that playing at a high level in D1 even matters any more. Certainly staying 3 or 4 years makes you 'yeserday's news' and you either go late in the 1st or 2nd rd or don't get drafted. Afterall you aren't the newest hype machine with loads of "upside".... If you're 6'3" or taller they can teach you to be an NBA star. Doesn't matter if you've literally done nothing.

I find it amazing how big NBA guards have become. I heard the comment last night that a 6'4" shooting guard may be a little small for his position!!! Look how many PG are now 6'5" and up. So a small guard like Cotton has to be special. That doesn't mean he can't go to the summer league and win a spot. But when a team has 2 picks the second pick is probably the 11-13th man and they often want a body they can develop. I posted a few weeks ago that I thought Cotton wouldn't get drafted because he would really struggle guarding the typical NBA PG. The other problem I see is that NBA guards do most of their passing in the lane or along the baseline back out to the 3 point line. At his size, that would be a very difficult pass. Hopefully in the summer league he proves he can physically handle the size difference.

That was my point. Resume means little. It's hype (whoever the echo chamber is pushing at the given moment) and size/speed/"athleticism" with the idea of "upside" and "potential" over what players have actually demonstrated at each level prior in terms of their skill and ability to win and improve their team. I don't believe if it was always this way but has kind of evolved to this point. I don't think it's for the better of the league, but to the detriment. I guess that's one major reason I much prefer the college game, it still has plenty of warts but it is more merit based.
