Cteve, good points I also didn't care much for how his mother came across in that article as well. I understand she is going to support her son but at the same time there is a way to handle things especially when you are a person in a semi- public forum. I still feel that there is a lot more to this. In my view there was nothing wrong with Cooley looking for more depth and saying after the Big East Championship that Fortune was probably going to be the 9th guy off the bench. Fortune knew that when they were practicing. Should we expect Tyler Harris to get mad and leave because Cooley said that he would have been the 6th man. He also shouldn't have been upset about them looking for more guards. It's not like we were seriously recruiting a bunch of 2 guards. Fortune was still going to get his run.

The notion that Fortune could/should be hissed because Cooley was recruiting guards is inane. Do we really need to rehash how little guard depth we have??? The kid did not even have a true backup. He was the only shooting guard on our roster and coach should just be fine with that? He seems far too level headed to be hissed that coach wanted more guard depth. And the only guy that would have cut into his minutes significantly was Graham. Every other recruit would have been a complimentary player. He was getting at least 25 mpg no matter what. I don't see it at all. The only thing I can hope for ia combo of the Boston Friar scenario of him wanting the ACC and a chance to play more in front of his folks. This came of nowhere. By far the most disappointing transfer out in Cooley's time.

How many minutes would Josh expect to get as a senior - when you add in this year's new guards & next year's top recruits? Maybe Josh was worried he'd have to sit on the bench as a senior and wanted to stay one step ahead.

Didn't Kofane want to stay?.. That was reported at some point during the season....can't have it both ways fellas.... ...josh fortune to Kentucky?.... Really?
Hey Walk....You kill me...."can't have it both ways" Just a point here....WE "fellas" don't post as a unit. Each of us has a different opinion to post. I know you like to pretend it's you against the world (kind of like HS for you, when you RULED the school in Dungeons and Dragons) but it actually CAN go both ways. SOMEONE may have posted Kofane wanted to stay, but that doesn;t mean anyone else agreed. Do me a favor and get over yourself little man.

As an Occamite: He just played two seasons with a guard who he probably felt didn't give up the ball and was the favorite of the HC. That kind of thing gets to some people. Especially if he doesn't feel he is going to be treated as Bryce was, now that he's an upperclassman. Cteve, I think this is a fair point. It's almost like Fortune looked at this like Shabazz Napier following the departure of Kemba Walker: "This is my team now. I am going to be the man." Unfortunately, Fortune is nowhere near the player Shabazz was even as a sophomore. I think Josh is a good kid, I hate the timing, but not the person...It stinks that you are leaving a program this late when the next season is basically ready to start in the minds of coaches and players. You're preparing for summer classes and ushering in the next class of kids. Podcast coming on the matter and recruiting...

I see no possible way a kid who was a main cog in a championship season thinking he was gonna be relocated to the bench because of recruits (who have not even chosen PC, mind you) yet thinks he can play in the ACC...

Mrs Blair - not wasting my time.
A - i don't necessarily think it was the recruiting ot 2Gs but the recruiting of 5th year 2Gs...
And while i agree that the timing sucks, i don't see how it had any impact from a recruiting standpoint....we've gone after everyone...

Wow, dodged a bullet there...Were you going to change my name to some insult, like Thump....That still cracks me up every time. Please keep enlightening the rest of us with your insight, insults, and pomposity. I know I am a better person for reading your posts, and since we ALL are collectively lumped together by you, everyone else is too. You're like the the kid with green eyes on A Christmas Story....You're the Scott Farkus of Friar basketball fan-dom..

Walk, the recruiting of 5th year 2s was specifically because of Mitchell and the other 2s for 2015...none of whom were ever going to relocate Fortune to less than 25 mpg...you don't think the kid came away from March with five times the swag he had in January?
This happened because of one of the following...he wants the ACC or something bad happened off the court.
If he is so soft that coach speak or recruiting makes him want to leave, color me incredibly shocked.

I think most of us are just plain frustrated by the movement of players in such a negative way. While kids like Ledo signed and the future was looking great, most of the kids with promising talent never played for us. Just think about it all for a minute. Ledo gone, Dunn injured 2 years in a row, Austin gone, Bullock suspended If none of those things happended we'd be looking at a pretty damn good team. It just feels like more of the same with Josh gone-just another negative that happened within the program. It just seems like 2 steps forward then 3 steps back-frustrating as hell.

How his mother came across in her one sentence quote? She said her son doesn't want to make any comments until he gets his release and can talk to schools. Maybe you read it differently than I did but to me it seems reasonable that a player would want to hold off comment until being released. That actually happens frequently if you follow transfers in college basketball. News breaks of the release and then you don't hear anything from the player until the release happens and then you get the "I want to thank Coach for the opportunity" type stuff. Criticizing the mom is off base here, IMO. Edit: here is the quote “Josh doesn’t want to talk until he is allowed to talk to other schools,” Angela Fortune said.

A - i am completely guessing but could see a scenario where he has no problem sharing time with a frosh vs a 5th year guy who's more likely coming for major minutes...
Oaklawn - if all those guys were eligible and played, i would have expected a fortune transfer last year....
Has he been given the release?

This seems like a really tough hit to me. Who is the outside scoring threat to stretch the defense? I've seen some mixed responses, with some seeming to think its no big deal. It's a big deal and a shame because I think great things were in store for Josh here. You can't replace the experience he built up. Have to wonder what really made him decide to go, the whole being close to home thing is overused imo. But only he and his family, and maybe Ed Cooley truly know.
