this from Rothstein:
"Providence freshman Rodney Bullock is going to be a factor for the Friars. Undersized PF can really shoot the ball. Solid 8th or 9th man."
Don't think that's the case this year gents...from what I saw and heard, he's going to be a keeper but needs a year under his belt. I see limited time this year because we are stacked with experienced players. Think he will indeed be a perimeter threat down the road and a competitor. His time will come.
Teddy will be the instant energy valuable guy and fierce defender again this year...only even better.

Interesting, Dex. Question for Bullock is whose minutes does he take or, in your view, not take? If Rothstein thinks Bullock is a solid 8th or 9th guy his minutes would have to come from someone else. Let's take a look:
The top-6 are set in stone - Batts, Cotton, Dunn, CD, Harris and Henton - while 7, 8 and 9 come from a collection of Goldy, Austin, Fortune and Bancroft. Bullock has to outplay TWO of those four to merit Rothsteins prediction. I say he does it by edging out Fortune and Bancroft while occasionally picking up a dice of minutes off a top-6 guy, namely Henton (ya know, when he isn't "feeling well"). I just remember Eddie saying the kid was Jared Dudley all over again and my memory recalls a very active JD in his freshman year at BC. Put another way, if Rajay IS a top-8/9 guy I'm guessing we've put defense and toughness ahead of anything else and probably become a better team for it.

I think the coach has to find time for Austin-substantial time. He may find time at the 1, 2 or 3 positions.

I have no doubt that Austin will be in the top 7.

I think the coach has to find time for Austin-substantial time. He may find time at the 1, 2 or 3 positions. I'm with Oak on this. I see Austin as top 6, and (unfortunately, since have not heard glowing reports) CD being #7. From that point there's a drop off, so Rajay will have his chance.

I've asked before...what's the deal with rothstein and pc? Or is he super positive about every player on every team?
Didn't Ed already say bullock was a project?

1. Good point and good question. He was up, (to practice), last year and predicted good things for the Friars early on - turns out he was correct as last year's team did surprise. All I do know is that he has been out-on-the-limb with us before and must like what Ed Cooley is doing here...and no he is not super positive across the board with other teams. He is a well known major "foodie" who loves Federal Hill...so maybe that's why... 2. Yes, Cooley said Bullock is a fine prospect but someone who will need time to develop - heard him say that myself.

What with all the crazed fervor over PC's recruiting efforts at getting more 4 Star prospects, maybe taking a step back and a deep breath is a good thing right now. Almost all 17-18-19 year old kids need time to transition to the next level - even the so called "one and dones" with the notable rare exceptions have to adjust when entering the NBA. Not suggesting a return to Freshman basketball teams but players like Rajay Bullock are essential to build a solid program - a core here at PC. I think even with all the build-up, a Brandon Austin will need time to adjust this year. Most Freshman players do progress, others not so much - many come to mind - Kadeem Batts' emergence on the plus side; Brian McKenzie is one on the other. Presently the hope is "shooter", our inconsistent Josh Fortune will hopefully/certainly(?) step up this season even after the many minutes he was forced to play last season, correct? Talk to Coach Cooley - I suggest he will agree...it is one of his favorite subjects for conversation. (paraphrases) "We're talking about 17-18 year old kids here"..."Minutes are not negotiable..."

Completely agree, WTM. This was sort of the same point I tried to make in another thread. We are not going to land all Top 50 prospects like Kentucky. Guys like Fortune and Bullock will hopefully continue to develop and be 4 year contributors. When they are seniors, they will provide maturity and experience to a team that will hopefully have a couple of freshmen Top 100s that year. This is a great formula unless you are Kentucky and can literally land all Top 50 prospects.
If we land Lindsey and Chukwu this year and add some other support pieces it will be a great class and much better than we have seen in years. Assuming nobody leaves early, that will give us FIVE ESPN Top 100s on the roster next year (Desrosiers, Dunn, Austin, Lindsey, Chukwu). Not too many programs can say that.

"Step back, "Take a breath"? Rothstein suggested the kid could be an 8th or 9th guy. Why is it required that we take that presumption and walk it back even further? Nobody is calling Bullock a prime-time player or even a breakthrough frosh, just that maybe he might be better than Ted Bancroft, Goldy and or maybe even Josh Fortune. No reason to temper the enthusiasm, it's already been tempered. BTW: I've never seen this kid play and have no idea if he's the 3rd or 12th guy. As for Cooley's comments about the kid needing time, well, let me know when a coach doesn't say that about just about every frosh.

Hey, your point is taken but the larger point is that Cooley does not mince words at all - he is bombastic in his approach to a lot of things - including when he says flat out that he will win a National Championship at PC.
Same night he made that comment about Bullock walk, he also said Brandon Austin was different than most Frosh and was ready to contribute right away so there you go...

Who in the eff said i had a problem with cooley's statement? It was Rothstein's statement that raised the question.
PC needs the bullock types to develop into the top 7 of the rotation for their jr/sr years and prefer that the coach tell us we need to wait for it to happen.
..as for austin, i have some concerns that the bar is being set too high. I think a gerard coleman type freshman year would be outstanding for this kid....

newyork.cbslocal.com/2013/08/30/rothstein-this-and-that-around-ncaa-basketball-maymon-on-the-mend-more/- The Providence staff is quietly confident that freshman forward Rodney Bullock will be a factor in the Friars’ rotation. The 6-7 Bullock wasn’t highly rated coming out of high school, but he fits the mold of the type of under-the-radar recruit Ed Cooley used to land when he was an assistant under Al Skinner at Boston College. A solid shooter with a nose for the ball, Bullock should turn out to be a quality reserve for Providence, who has the personnel to compete for an NCAA bid this season.
