Police in New York City have charged two Brooklyn men with the attempted murder of an Andover technical recruiter, who police said was brutally beaten with a baseball bat and tire iron Sunday morning while on a weekend reunion in the Big Apple with several friends.
His parents at his side, Kevin McCarron, 24, remained hospitalized at New York Presbyterian Hospital Thursday, where he was upgraded from critical to stable condition, said Sgt. Carlos Nieves, a spokesman for the NYPD. Nieves said McCarron — who he did not identify by name — is once again breathing on his own, adding, “His family stated he is improving.”
McCarron, a 2011 graduate of Providence College, scouts technical talent for clients of the Eliassen Group in Wakefield. Attempts to reach his family were unsuccessful.
Paul Fleming, a spokesman for the Eliassen Group, said in a statement, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Kevin and his family as he continues to recover from the injuries he sustained in New York Sunday. He is a pleasure to work with and all of our colleagues have missed his presence in the office. We eagerly await his return to the office.”
Nieves said McCarron and six other young men in his party were attacked shortly after 5 a.m. Sunday after leaving a Greenwich Village pizza parlor and as they walked to the subway en route to Grand Central Station.
Nieves said “words were exchanged” with another group of men gathered around a black Ford Focus that led to “pushing, shoving, punches being thrown,” and finally the weapons being pulled from the car’s trunk.
McCarron “was struck with a bat, a tire iron and was punched and kicked while he was on the ground by several of the suspects,” Nieves said. “This caused him to become unconscious.” The suspects then fled in the Focus and a white Jeep Liberty, he said.
Hatem Farsakh, 24, and Sherif Rizk, 22, both of Brooklyn, were arrested Tuesday. Farsakh is charged with attempted murder and Rizk with attempted murder and assault.
“There are still other individuals outstanding,” Nieves said.
