Time to take an election pulse.

Of course, my vote will be useless being a RIer.

Gonna take a sports look at it, FF: Obama got 63% of RI vote in '08. Anything under 60% this time around is a rejection, like losing to a team by 20 and then next time only by 7. Makes you feel better even though it's still a loss. Rhode Islanders are clients of the Democrat Party more than anything else so the scoreboard watch is the only thing worth noting for we non-clients.

Losing by under 60% this time is more an indictment of McCain-Palin than it is a rejection of Obama.

McCain/Palin were not on the ballot in 2000 or 2004 when the Democrat got 61% of the vote in RI, Tonton. Sub-60% for Obama in a client-state would say something and it wouldn't be about the GOP.

Democrats had 59% in 2004, 61% in 2000, 60% in 1996 and he's running at 58% right now, so Romneyites should save the moral victory dance till we have the results.

Tonton, each and every presidential candidate in recent RI electoral history has essentially gained 60%+. (That was the topic after-all, not national "trending" or "polls") If Obama falls short of that number it says something about him that doesn't surround McCain/Palin, no matter how frustrated you happen to be about those who may support Romney.
Now, if you say that Obama under 60% in RI says more about the strength of the Romney ticket I guess you can have that point but I say it says waaaay more about the Obama record. No?
For the record (RI):
Clinton: 60% Gore: 61% Kerry: 59.5% Obama: 63%

I don't think there's any question that the lowered percentage for Obama is due to the strength of the Romney-Ryan ticket. This is my twelfth presidential vote and, believe me, I know the feeling of looking up there and saying, My God, we couldn't do any better than that? And looking at your stats, 63% is an anomaly that can only be attributed to the lameness of Palin. I actually love the race this year. We've got four serious thoughtful people up there, no Kerry, no Palin, no Quayle, no Dukakis, no W.

I will agree to disagree on much of what we have exchanged here Tonton, failing mostly to see how anyone can call Joe Biden anything different than what one would call Sara Palin. Go Friars!

Well, experienced would be one thing you could call Biden that you couldn't call Palin. Consistent would be another, as would team oriented, free of spotty personal and family history, too. In the interest of civil discourse, I'll leave out some others.

In the interest of civil discourse I will spare the retelling of how utterly well Joe Biden hides his wealth of experience each time he opens his mouth.
(Incidentally, when you hint at the things you did with Palin - who isn't on the ballot this year - have you really demonstrated civil discourse?)
But alas, we all have a horse in the race and see things as we choose to. Good luck to you and your Obamanites (is that the right way to equalize the phrase you used for Romney supporters.....I really don't know?)
Go Friars!

I brought up Palin simply as an explanation for why Democrats did extraordinarily well (according to your stats) last election. Nothing uncivil about that. I complimented the Republican ticket this year as being serious, ideological and sober sided which you seem to have interpreted as frustration, and I don't see much wrong with the terms Romneyite and Obamaite, although, you're right, they probably do sound a little cultish. At least we don't have to read anyone referring to Obama as Hussein this time around on these boards.

If you believe the earth was created 6000 years ago, dispute global warming, believe 47% of the people in this country are "victims", oppose civil rights for all people, oppose that women should have rights over their own body, want to privatize FEMA, cut federal funding for schools, vouchers for Medicare, and believe in trickle down economics. Then by all means, vote for Romney.

Just make sure you VOTE on Tuesday.
As an un-enrolled independent I certainly will if only to reduce the mindless and relentless rhetorical excoriation from both sides.
