The U.S. now leads the world in confirmed coronavirus cases. Scientists warned that the United States someday would become the country hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic. That moment arrived on Thursday. In the United States, at least 81,321 people are known to have been infected with the coronavirus, including more than 1,000 deaths — more cases than China, Italy or any other country has seen, according to data gathered by The New York Times. A couple of thoughts as I watch the news: 1. The cable news outlets actually include CHINA in their stats. Does that mean they believe them? If so, I have a Bridge in Brooklyn for sale. IMO their stats mean squat and should be totally discounted unless of course if one is trying to make some other countries look bad. The Chinese Commie Party are mass murderers of the world's people but the West has created this powerful economic and militaristic Frankenstein and there's not a friggin thing we can do about it. Every administration for the past 45 years owns it. 2. Population in Millions: Italy is 60.48 Japan is 126.8 South Korea is 51.47 Germany is 82.79 Spain is 46.66 France is 66.99 Great Britain is 66.44 Canada is 37.59 And now Two Biggies: China is 1.39 BILLION
USA is 327 MILLION Note: I would like to salute North Korea for their stellar record of having ZERO people testing positive and of course ZERO deaths. I would also recommend for an idiot who might visit NOKO, not a good idea to sneeze or cough in the presence pf Prez Kim. May God Help Us All.

The strategies that China used to contain the spread are the only way to fight this war. We aren’t using any of those strategies. I’m not certain that we can. We’ll see every one of our cities look like Wuhan within the next month. Detroit, Chicago, New Orleans, Atlanta, Miami are all about to overwhelm their hospitals. This country is far too interested in personal freedoms to socially isolate on our own. Be safe, Friar fans.

Unfortunately methinks friara is on the money with the above. While we will never know the real stats from the ChiComs, it is obvious that western democratic countries are at a disadvantage in terms of controlling the masses in a crisis.
A business colleague from China, NOT Wuhan, kept in touch weekly to try to get news "from the outside" as to what was happening in his country and what "the party" was telling the world. He's an owner of medium sized manufacturing plant and had some outside access via the internet that 99.9 % of the masses did not have available to them. The military police assured that nobody went in or out of Wuhan and his plant was shuttered and he and his family were confined to their dwellings. He was allowed to go to the market once per week and that lasted 1 1/2 months approx. Their underground was reporting mass graves and huge bonfires near Wuhan. The people were aware of the Wuhan situation long before quarantine restrictions were imposed on the rest of the populace because word spreading from relatives living in Wuhan. The Party for quite some time tried to hide the truth about what was happening in Wuhan and likely to spread because they didn't want the world to know the severity....and of course by then it was too late for the world.
If that isn't a crime against humanity I don't know what is a crime.
Around the beginning of March he was allowed to open his plant and the schools were opened except for the youngest kids everywhere except Wuhan. The people were not happy with The Party before all this and that is an under-statement when it comes to the educated.
So yesterday in RI the Governor announced that local and State police along with the National Guard will stop all cars entering RI with NY Plates. She also stated that they know all the rental or seasonal dwellings in coastal South County and each and every home will be visited by Police or the Guard. Every realtor was being apprised of their responsibility to inform clients. They are also at bus, train stations and the airport. The people stopped are told that they must quarantine themselves for 14 days before leaving their dwelling. She announced many other restrictions that are now the law by executive order and punishable by fine or prison.
Within an hour of the Governor's declarations, Stephen Brown of the ACLU issued a statement that her executive orders were unconstitutional. Gov Gina responded with a statement in essence that she will ignore him.
RI, Providence and other towns here are part of our Sanctuary State designation. For years here and the Mayor of Providence have incessantly issued statements that they would NOT cooperate with the Feds who seek to apprehend illegal aliens with arrest warrants for their crimes. So I guess an illegal NOT with ny plates and possibly infected with the virus or perhaps making their usual delivery of fentanyl & other deadly drugs can come and go as they please. If perchance they are arrested and arraigned, the State will not alert the Feds that he or she were being released.
I support the Governor's tightening of the screws on a populace that might not be adhering to her directives which are intended To Save Lives. Afterall, we are or should be on a war footing...albeit a little late. I hope she and Our Ruling Party (our State pols are 99% Dems, no kidding) will follow the same Life or Death policies of investigation and punishment when the virus subsides and bad people come here to do bad things.

I have zero interest in politicizing this. In fact, I think it’s shameful to do so. Our governor is doing a very good job handling this issue. I would rather she put more emphasis on our public areas as I still see kids playing basketball in playgrounds and football in parks. People coming from NY to Westerly will shelter in place at a far more consistent basis than adolescents and young adults do. As for China, we’re about to issue another 2 trillion of debt. We will be at 25 trillion in debt very soon. If we want it to remain affordable, we’re gonna need China because they already own close to 8% of our outstanding debt....and oh by the way, China is working now and we aren’t...China is a necessary evil. Without cooperation between us and them, we will see a global depression. It’s that simple.

They opened movie theaters for a day and then closed them again yesterday. I've seen some theorize that they opened everything to show "hey look we got it under control" and then closed it to be able to blame foreigners bringing it back into the country after the CCP fixed everything. Of course, could be way off base. Either way, China isn't out of the woods yet. I'd be surprised if anyone is out of the woods, even with a total lockdown, for another 18-24 months when a vaccine is developed. The name of the game until then is mitigating the loss of life and damage, which only a shutdown can do.

friara keep the info coming. It is very much appreciated. Thank you, No problem. I just really hope you guys are staying safe. I’ve always liked this forum because of the older guys who have such a great connection to their Alma mater that I have never had for mine. It’s part of why I tend to come here more often than the other board. I want so bad to come out of this ok so that we get more March madnesses that this great fan base deserves.

Their factories are up and running....which is part of the reason we will need to deal with them when we are up and running. Regardless, China has testing measures that we aren’t even close to yet. That’s what we need to be working on. The only way to deal with this virus until a vaccine is out is to have mass testing so that we can get antibodies from those who have recovered.

In time countries need to reduce reliance on China for their goods. I think it's shameful that so much of the world's pharmaceutical products come from China. Perhaps the largest producer of fentanyl in the world btw. It needs to be retrained even if it costs a few bucks more. The world created Frankenstein and now have to live with them as a world economic and military power. I prefer that we not rely on them for medicine or bullets.
I don't know if it's true because much of what we read today is bullchit, but I read somewhere that during WW2 in today's dollars we were racking up 6 trillion in debt per year. Print the trillions now or risk an economic collapse with businesses and jobs dropping like flies. Afterall, let's not forget this is a crisis. China ain't going to say a peep. They need viable customers when this is over. If anyone thinks the EU and Great Britain comes out of this stronger than us, they are misguided.

One of the problems with moving out of China is that our choices, for the most part, are with countries repped by government that is just as horrible.

Fr. Nicauro Austriaco dominicanfriars.org/a-dominican-microbiologist-on-a-possible-coronavirus-treatment/As a point of interest, when Fr. Sicard was selected to be PC's new President, also under consideration was Fr. Austriaco, who is an associate professor of biology and professor of theology at PC. He is also chief researcher at the Austriaco Laboratory on our campus. Fr. Austriaco is young and will be a name to follow. But right now we need people like him trying to get ahead of this virus. BTW, he likes bball just like Fr. Sicard. PIZZA, SODA, GRINDERS!!!
