And so, we move on to Penn - a squad that sent shivers down the spine of several posters just a month back. Not to discredit Penn, but they enter the contest with a record of 2-2, having lost their two road games to date (Rice L 61-80; Lafayette L 75-86).
The Quakers are:
- Averaging 73pts/game, vs their opponents, while giving up an average of 76pts/game
- Shooting at a clip of 41.8% from the field; 26.6% from three point land; 70.5% from the Line
- Averaging 7.25 attempts/game from 3 point land (26% of their field goal attempts on the season)
- Averaging 38 rebounds/game, an average of 10 coming on the offensive end
- Averaging 12 Assists to 13 Turnovers
- Averaging 6 Steals and 3 Blocks/contest
Among their 5 Starters, are 4 who average double digits in scoring and take the vast majority of their shots:
- AJ Brodeur: Senior Forward (6'8" 240lbs) is averaging 18.3pts/game, with all but 1 basket coming from inside the arc (1-9 from 3 on the season); Brodeur is their leading rebounder (10.3/game, with nearly 4/game under their basket. He also leads the team in assists and turnovers)
- Jordan Dingle: Freshman Guard (6'3" 200lbs) is averaging 16.3pts/game
- Devon Goodman: Senior Guard (6'0" 170lbs)is averaging 12.3pts/game
- Ryan Betley: Senior Guard (6'5", 200lbs) is averaging 11.3pts/game
- Eddie Scott: Junior Guard (6'6" 200lbs) is averaging 5.3pts/game
On paper, it appears that Penn's success is largely tied to AJ Brodeur (top scorer, top rebounder, top assist man), who appears to be their lone big for all by 7 minutes/game. Neutralize Brodeur, and Penn will need to resort to a bunch of guards who don't appear to be any better scorers (FG%) as the Friars. Perhaps pc1971 can provide a bit more in the way of a qualitative breakdown of this Penn squad (?)
