- Six games per round, each round occurring on days Providence plays a game.
- Entries should be submitted by the start of the first game of a round. That start time will be included when I announce the games for each round. Late submissions are still eligible for all games that have yet to start at the time of submission.
- Pick the winner of the Providence game: 3 points
A couple of stats from the Providence game are used as round tiebreakers:
Tiebreaker #1: the total points scored by both teams in the Providence game at the end of regulation play, aka your estimate of the Over/Under [whole numbers only]. The difference between the actual total points scored and participants' predictions are computed as an absolute value, so whoever is closest, whether above or below.
Tiebreaker #2: the high scorer among both teams in the Providence game. Not the number of points, just the player name. And not a player from each team, just the lone high scorer in the game.
- Pick the winner of one or more games involving at least one Big East team: 2 points each
Occasionally there are no other Big East games, or none that resemble a competitive game. In that case, I may pick one or more non-Big East games as being worth two points.
- Pick the winner of the remaining games: 1 point each
Whoever has the most points in a round is declared the winner of that round. There is often a tie, which will potentially be broken by the above two tiebreakers. If there is still a tie after both tiebreakers have been applied, the winners will split the round.
Points accumulate throughout the season and a winner is declared at the end of the season. This is referred to as the YTD category, one of two categories in which each participant can win. The number of rounds won throughout the season is used as a year-end tiebreaker for YTD.
Missed rounds: If a participant misses a round, partial credit will be awarded by computing 3/5 of the average number of points scored in the round multiplied by the individual's participation rate [rounds played / rounds]. The result will be rounded to the nearest whole number. The idea here is to make it hurt a bit each time a round is missed, but not so much that you're apt to give up after missing a couple of rounds. This is intended to reduce our dropout rate. Note that it will hurt a bit less if a round is rarely missed. At the same time, it doesn't hurt those who dutifully participate each round, as sometimes used to happen when we used to drop a round or two for all participants. Such scores will not count toward a participant's APR [see below].
The second category is APR = Average Points per Round
A minimum of 15 rounds played is required for eligibility. Tie-breaker is the most rounds played. When a participant's potential rounds played drops below 15 they will be dropped from the APR standings.
This is more like a batting average champion and is intended for those who play irregularly or start late.
There will be a single topic in the DAVE GAVITT COURT forum that I will update whenever there's an important PC Pick'em update in the Contests forum, and I'll provide a link to go directly to it.
There will be no Pick'em rounds on November 29th and December 1st, the last two games of the Wooden Legacy, because we won't know Providence's opponent until the last minute.
Good luck to all!
