To be honest, it is amazing that this team has won 18 games and beaten Villanova and X.

To be honest, it is amazing that this team has won 19 games and beaten Villanova and X. Agreed.Try to keep things in perspective folks. Think about a team like Duke---that brings in ridiculous talent every year and has Coach K.They should never lose.But---they do.Some fans would not be able to handle that!!

Yea, I think we've properly highlighted deficiencies.
Overall, I thought the team showed fight and showed me that they haven't given up. That game could have gotten ugly.

For the most part our seniors are members of the band, not lead singers.

SO we can't expect them to beat the #3 team in the country on their court. Fine. What are we allowed to expect? Not get blown out by Depaul at home? Be able to handle another bubble team (SHU) at home after our court/rink injured one of their best players? Where was our revenge? Handle a 6 point lead with a minute left at home against another bubble (barely) and not have our seniors chuck the ball all over the lot?
IF any of the above happens, we are most likely in the dance. All post injury.
As for better players - aren't these the same players who we predicted would get to the dance before the season started Our leader came in with comparable rankings to the following - Bridges, Macura, Martin, ahead of the SHU small forwards. What does Bullock do differently than 2 years ago? Cartwright, and I love his effort, picks up at least one dumbass foul a game. His second last night was effing awful. He literally pushed the player who beat him.
And the overall posts aren't really negative. The majority are factually correct. Most think we need 2 Ws to get in. 10 turnovers in a half is pathetic unless you're playing 5 freshmen.

1. Hearing lotsa whining after the Xavier loss last night. How many truly expected PC to win that game at Cintas on Senior Night with the BE Regular Season on the line after the Friars had defeated them at the Dunk earlier this year?X is 26-4.Their losses have been to Arizona State [back when they were playing very well], Nova twice and to PC.This team is #3 in the land and is expected to be a 1 seed in the Big Dance.Let's be real folks. 2. Friars went into that game as an 11 point underdog. 3. Of course I would have loved for the Friars to win.But---I am not angry that they did not.The better team won. 4. I loved that our guys never quit.MAL and White showed me alot yesterday.Hopefully, that will boost their confidence and they will be solid contributors in future games this season.Getting it down to 3 to end half 1 was nice.Bullock and Jalen gave us nothing last night.Even with that the Friars did not get blown away. 5. I thought the refs stunk .Thumper may not want to hear that.But---that is my view. 6.Xavier is an excellent free throw team. When you can send five guys out there at closeout time who shoot 80% or better from the charity stripe---it is tough to come back. 7.Nova at SHU and Butler at SJU were fun to watch.OT and Double OT.What a great League. For last place Johnnies to beat the Bulldogs without Ponds showed me alot.Saturday will not be a given.But--the Friars have their own fate in their hands.Cannot ask for more than that. 8. Hopefully---the Seniors will come out roaring for their last regular season game at the Dunk----especially knowing that the win is needed if they wish to attain their NCAA goals. If not---then they do not deserve it. 9.I will be at MSG next week. It should be an entertaining BET.There will be upsets!!! GO FRIARS!! The whining was HOW we lost, not THAT we lost. Your #1 point comes across as disingenuous and I'm not sure you meant it that way. And that goes for Cooley not starting Jackson in the 2nd half as he was the only one who came close to checking Blueitt

CINCINNATI — The Friars have reached the must-win portion of their season.
After losing at Xavier on Wednesday night, Providence will carry a 18-12 record into their final regular-season game Saturday against St. John’s. With a 9-8 Big East mark, that contest looks like a necessity to further any chance of a fifth straight NCAA Tournament. “We know what we’re playing for and what’s at stake,” said senior Jalen Lindsey.
If the Friars can beat the Red Storm, they’ll play next Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament. That game will be against an almost-certain NCAA tourney pick like Creighton or Butler. Lindsey said he wants to leave behind a winning legacy that includes not only another NCAA trip but also additional Big East Tournament success.
“It means a lot,” he said. “Since I’ve been here we’ve been in the tournament every year. We’re playing for that fifth one and we just know it’s a legacy that us seniors want to leave behind and pass it off to the younger guys that are coming up and have them keep it going.”
Coach Ed Cooley has made it a point to emphasize to his team that Providence is one of only 19 teams to play in each of the last four NCAAs. He wants a fifth as badly as his players do but a few more wins are clearly necessary.
“To us it means a lot and to the program it means a lot so it’s something that we’re striving for,” Lindsey said.
A class act
The senior class honored before Wednesday’s game is potentially the greatest in the history of Xavier basketball. The Musketeers paid tribute to Trevon Blueitt, J.P. Macura, Sean O’Mara and graduate transfer Kerem Kanter. Over the last four seasons, the group has won over 100 games and, more important, six NCAA Tournament games. The team’s No. 3 ranking is the highest in school history.
Xavier advanced to the Elite Eight last year and the Sweet 16 when Blueitt, Macura and O’Mara were freshmen. Blueitt (2,142) and Macura (1,409) have combined for more points (3,551) than any duo in college basketball except St. Bonaventure’s Jaylen Adams and Matt Mobley (3,654). Rhode Island’s E.C. Matthews and Jared Terrell (3,484) are fourth.
Blueitt will likely earn some national All-American recognition in the next few weeks, as will fellow Big East star Jalen Brunson. The Villanova point guard looks like the heavy favorite for conference player of the year honors.
“It will be a bittersweet moment,” Blueitt said before his final game at the Cintas Center, “because you know in your head it’s the last time you’re going to step on that floor in front of those fans. At the same time we’ve got a job to do against a good Providence team.”
Elite opponents
The Friars had their fourth game against a top-five opponent this season on Wednesday night. PC already defeated the Musketeers when they were fifth in the polls and beat then-No. 3 Villanova. The Friars lost to the Wildcats when they were ranked No. 1 back on Jan. 23.
PC’s two top-five wins marked just the second time the Friars defeated two top-five teams in the same season. The other came in 1990 when the Rick Barnes- coached Friars knocked off No. 5 Syracuse at the Carrier Dome and No. 3 Georgetown in Providence.
The Friars have played more than four top-five ranked teams only once in program history. That came back in 1985 when the Big East was rolling behind Georgetown and Patrick Ewing and St. John’s and Chris Mullin. PC, which finished 11-20 in Joe Mullaney’s last season as coach, went 0-5 against those teams. St. John’s was ranked first in two of the games and second in another. The Hoyas were ranked first and second in their wins over the Friars.
Right at home
It may be time to make sure Virginia Johnson is sitting near the Friars bench a bit more often.
Johnson is Rodney Bullock’s mother. She lives in Hampton, Va., and travels to only a few games but the short trip to Washington for the Georgetown game is always on her list. She was in the stands last Saturday for PC’s win over the Hoyas and watched Bullock pour in a season-high five 3-pointers on the way to 19 points.
That was only the latest strong outing for Bullock at Georgetown. In his sophomore year he posted a double-double with 10 points and a career-best 14 rebounds. He scored 22 points last season and has a 3-0 record in his trips to Washington.
“For whatever reason Rodney’s played well at Georgetown,” Cooley said. “Maybe it’s just close to Virginia. We needed every one of his [3-pointers]. We’ll need more of them the rest of the way.”

A win Saturday is a must, but they are going to need more than that. One can do all the projections they want but until the conference tourneys are done I can't get hyped up. History has shown there will be upsets in the tourneys that will put some team in not expected to be in and bump others out. At 19-12 if they win Saturday, just not feeling it for this bunch. (How about an opening NIT game against the Beagles. ) Sure they lost to the number 3 team in the land on their home court on senior night but the fact that 2 of the Friar seniors stunk last night is what makes it more disappointing. Referees were terrible (overall not just against the Friars), funny hearing Joe yelling at one of them over the radio. Dex should be happy with the Beagles win last night over PaschalCuse. Exactly FM, just like we got bumped back last year remember last year we had what 21-22 wins?? and we ended up one of last 2 at large bids I believe so where does 19 wins leave ya?? in the Not Invited Tournament

Come on '71 two of your Seniors didn't show. It was a damn lay-up drill and dunk fest for X. That was a winnable game last night. Not saying I expected a win, but X did not play anything close to their best game. With the exception of the center spot, PC matches up well against them. Blown opportunity. Yankee: I have seen Bluett go off in several games recently. He destroyed SH recently. We do not have player who can score off the dribble like he can. He had an off game at the Dunk but last night his shooting was much better. Hopefully that is Reeves in 2 or 3 years.

White can score off the dribble and should be playing more minutes as he is getting more and more confident in his return......gotta love friartown...

Actually Lindsey was more highly regarded than all of the guys you named and on par with Bridges. Martin, Macura, and the SH SF's were all 3 stars that were seen as program guys. They have all exceeded expectations from a recruiting projection standpoint. I do give Cartwright credit. He has improved greatly and outplayed his ranking but he can't do it alone. He's been better than every other pg except for Graham at KU who we recruited during that time period. He's been far more consistent than our other two seniors. Bullock seems like he doesn't want to take over and lead and Lindsey hasn't developed well enough to create his own let alone take over a game. This team has warts like most teams and I agree with you also that most have been pretty factual when stating it. This team had high expectations coming into the year and many thought we would push Villanova. Holt was a big loss but it doesn't excuse us losing some of the games we've lost. Marquette, DePaul, SHU,the 2nd Butler game and last night were winnable games.

I understand that he is capable of going off at any time. I except that. Their two best guys had 30 points last night our two best ( Cartwright and Diallo) had 23. We held them below their combined average in both games. The game was not lost because of Bluiett or Macura. How many times did Rodney get beat off the dribble last night? How many unforced turnovers did we have? How many points did we allow O'Mara and Kanter? How many layups and jams inside 3 feet did we give up? How many offensive rebounds did we allow? Answer those questions and you will find the reasons for why we lost. That was as winnable a game as a team like ours is going to get on the road at #3. Not sure how some of you guys can't understand that, but I bet Cooley knows it.
