Hearing there are few, if any, tickets left for the remaining home games. The support of the fans has been tremendous this year as evidenced by the DePaul game being a sell out. There are still nights when the DD Center is like a morgue, however, when the students are in attendance and the games are meaningful, the place still rocks. I don't think we will ever compare with the Cameron crazies but it is still a nice little home court advantage. Now if the referees would officiate accordingly, we could run the table.

The DePaul game is Parents/Alumni weekend. It sells out every year. I hear you that the fans have been great but this sell-out has nothing to do with it.

It's actually Parent's Weekend, Alumni Weekend and Accepted Students (Class of 2022) Weekend.
A must event in my household each year. Looking forward to the game

Whatever the reason, it is still such a different environment than in years past under prior coaches. I believe the students and younger fans are becoming more involved with the program leading to a more vibrant crowd. As a season ticket holder for 30 years I can recall many nights with a packed house but no energy. It seems different now.

I’ve been tracking attendance the last 4 or 5 years, I neglected to do the legwork this year but perhaps will post. They always sell out alumni weekend and often it falls when DePaul or a weaker sat opponent is in town (helps to sell an otherwise unenticing opponent),.......also they tend to sell out most of the Saturday BE games and down the stretch of the season if in the hunt.....if not sell outs usually 11,000 plus....
The home crowd deserves a lot of credit. Yeah it can be flat for the early part or chunks of games, yeah the fake rah rah stuff from the emcee (get on your feet friar town!!) is ignored -as expected, yeah the early OOC games see some terrible crowds of 4-5k.....but compared to the rest of D1 were in great shape.....in the 90s the team routinely had larger crowds for most of the season but then there were way less options, cost was cheaper, and TV coverage was minimal at best. Attendance is down sport wide. The crowds engage when they should, based on the product on the court, and I’ve been to atmospheres at the Dunk that easily rival Celtics playoff atmosphere.
Rohode Island is running away with the A10 this year and they’ve still only physically sold out their 7900 seat gym once - against us. They’ve come close a couple of their games which is an improvement for them (they’re avg is a high of 5900 this yr), but it’s remarkable that a school with an undergrad of 4K at tiny PC sells out several games at 12,900 and or averages close to 10k for home games.

One less home game from last year (and one of those at Alumni) - and we'll still comfortably beat last year's total attendance w/ just 6,800 per final two games!
HBU 2,620 MIN 10,214 BEL 6,857 BC 10,806 RID 7,255 BRWN 6,087 STON 5,742 SHU 6,452 MARQ 8,375 XAV 12,630 BUT 12,407 CREI 12,927 GTWN 11,125 DEP 12,892 VIL 12,887 HALL SJU 17 139,276 Avg so far (through 15 games played) 9,285 Avg so far (if nobody goes to remaining 2 games!) 8,193
Last year's avg attendance (18 home games) 8,492

The crowd including the students at both baselines were incredible last night.
Dancing and singing and cheering all game long...it was a festival atmosphere.
Somehow even that loud mouth obnoxious distracting Harry son-of-a-gun didn't even bother me.

Agreed, i think the fan base can cheer with more excitement and confidence then in years past. Don't forget in years past we were basically playing for NIT seeding by late January FWIW. Also much more commercial environment IMO, but hey beats the Not Invited Tournament 4 out of 5 years Never forget what Sean Mcdonaugh use to say when we fired Tim. We weren't a realistic fan base and we weren't gonna do no better!!! remember those quotes??....geezus that guy use to kill me I hope I run into him some night.. Want to ask him if he still feels PC made the wrong move getting rid of Tim

That's because you have a lot of faithful non-alumni who've been attending PC games for years. I don't think URI can say the same. PC picked up a lot of fans in this state through the 70's and 80's with Ernie and Pitino leading the way in a state with a large Italian/American contingency. I don't remember neither of those times but I remember my grandmother and uncle with the Ernie and Pitino stories. FWIW I think URI sold out against Davidson or one of their A-10 foes

You'd have to be a switch hitter to run into him.
Which doesn't make him a bad guy.

As a season ticket holder for 30 years I can recall many nights with a packed house but no energy. It seems different now. In years past, the full houses may have been the result of basketball fans wanting to see a visiting team in person. Given PC performance under Ed Cooley, more of those butts in seats are Friar fans
