For years, prior to Cooley, we were the Georgetown in these type of games. (Remember the one "we" lost to G-Town on a near 1/2-court shot at the buzzer?) It certainly wasn't a fun process last night, but Providence got the win. I'm enjoying the era of "stealing," "edging out," and "out-scraping" teams for close wins, especially when at home and not playing particularly well. That's what good programs always seem to do.

Jax and diallo have taken over this team.....leaders by example. May not be successful but there is no doubt they're trying to make plays along with Cartwright. Serious question on trent Forbes. Different recruiting track but he came in with big ecpectations. Think he had 27 against zona as a senior. Fine? Matt Alosa fine? Chris Watts fine? In all seriousness, I see absolutely nothing in MALs game that tells me not to worry...unless I'm a BU or UMASS fan... Before the season, many people here were wondering when White & Edwards would transfer out. They are both head and shoulders better basketball players than MAL. If MAL wasn't a top 50 kid, we would all be calling for him to be brizzed. He might not be the worst basketball player in the 35 years I've been following the Friars but he might be playing the worst basketball of any player I can remember that received rotation minutes.

On MAL, I really hope he is able to turn the corner for next year. Appears to be a good kid and this has to be rough on him after being a highly touted recruit.
I don’t say this to pile on but only because I am so shocked: has there been a Freshman PG at PC over the past 25 years or so who has appeared to be less BE ready than MAL? Just throwing some names out there – Shamm, Curry, Linehan, Wright (Juco Soph), DMac, Council, Larragan. Can even throw in combo guards like Kabba and Michael Brown. Was Cotton recruited as a PG or SG/Combo? He had a rough freshman year.
It’s just so surprising given his ranking and winning in prep and AAU at a high level.

I really think it's just freshman jitters and maturity. It's just all happening too fast for him and he is overthinking things instead of just playing fluidly. So many of his turnovers are coming from lack of court awareness and hesitation with his passes.

Pat's first time in the PCC: He was a hs Jr and came down with a couple of older guys one of which was "Mr S" the dad of --who went to every game-- Aubrey Stallworth a lanky Friar Frosh. Whether it was set up by Gavitt IDK probably Jimmy Adams but other than getting him a trail at the Olympic Camp (which I'm not sure he ever took) PC was never really in it with him and I'm not sure he ever took an official visit.
Things probably soured badly when Stallworth was infuriated over Aubrey's academic problems and I don't think the kid ever played ball anywhere after his Fr. year.

Understand completely Draif and I don't know anyone who is not surprised at Kai's showing so far. I told you the other day that he has lost his confidence in a big way. That was not Dex opining but two people VERY close to him and not family and not PC folks. Last night after getting his shot swatted, he turned to hustle back on defense AND when I looked into his eyes I noticed he was immediately looking at Cooley who was more than a half a court length away. Kai did hustle back and KC was summoned to check-in before Kai made it to half court. Nobody can play like that and UNTIL he says freak-it, I'm going to do the things that got me here, namely making my mates better...we won't see the kid many teams recruited.
So it's fine to be surprised and shocked like I am, I'm sure he is also. Will he turn it around this or next year? How do I know. Maybe he will always stink, IDK. If the magnificent all time Friar GREAT Cotton taught us specimens one thing it is not to give up on a freshman. I learned my lesson thanks to Bryce and I hope others will also be guided accordingly and exercise restraint. Those who do not are stupid bastages.

Agree, Cotton was a big lesson to me. I had him pegged as a mid major transfer.
Sucks about the confidence. Like I said, must be tough. I hope for his sake it clicks for him.

Buffalo has an rpi of 27 and 7 losses. Are they good? Have they beaten a top 5 opponent? How about this Walk......can we say "good enough" like we do at work all day?

I would qualify a bubble team as a good team as far as college basketball today goes. If you think about it, there are roughly 350 teams playing DI basketball and a bubble team would be in the top 20%. There are very few very good teams in today's day and age. top 15%

Maybe Chris Rogers in 97/98 but I actually think he was serviceable by seasons end

I was told having a top 30 rpi is the criteria. I know nothing about buffalo except they sit one rpi spot ahead of us.

Definitely lost his confidence He was a MUCH BETTER player early in year against Uconn and Minny, URI It's his fathers job, or coaches job to do what they have to do to get his confidence back up easier said than done
