I was flipping through channels on Friday on the radio, and heard John Feinstein (I think) talking about Red Auerbach. Apparently, Red believed that the reason the NBA got rid of the territorial draft our because everyone in the league know he was going to use it to get Jimmy Walker. The Celtics always drafted at the end of the first round, and this would be a way of stopping Red from getting the best player in the country. Red felt the owners of the Knicks, Bullets, and another team (I didn't catch the name) were behind it.
This is (slightly) before my time, and I never heard this before. I wonder how different his career would have been had he played in Boston.
