I generally think Hurley does a pretty good job and BTW also straightened out URI's academic basketball problems.
If you can handle the pressure based on fan expectations, a good BB coach can do great things at Georgetown. Afterall...the brand takes care of half the battle.
In this case I hope Danny doesn't get the job. He presently has a peripheral interest in the recruits Cooley is following. Be sure Danny would get visits from local basketball talent who would not entertain the A10 at present but would entertain Georgetown in a serious way..

Witnessed it first hand at what may have been an ECAC Holiday Festival at MSG (or perhaps the Big East by then) St. John's vs. Georgetown.
During warmups, a guy I happened to know from the neighborhood, was sitting a few rows back from me, stood up to mimic gorilla noises and apelike gestures to the "delight" of his companions. He died early.

"He died early."
A nice play Daddy-O off my usual "He's DEAD to me"

Great post dad.
The perception of Pat Ewing as being incapable is flat out false. That it emerged from hateful racist ignorance is beyond unfortunate. It is also WRONG...

I happen to think the Pat Ewing would also work his tail off to prove the doubters wrong...

I'm not sure why Ewing hasn't gotten more love honestly. From all accounts he is a respected NBA coach who has paid his dues. If Mullin can get St. Johns why not Ewing to Georgetown?

Trivia time - Can anyone name the Dominican priest who accompanied John Thompson on his initial train-ride to visit the Providence campus?
The good father went on to have a long teaching career at PC and was a larger than life presence at basketball and hockey games.

I wouldn't hire Pat. I see several problem areas. But from a PC perspective I hope he gets the job.

Georgetown is fabled program. hire is important for big east. --------------------- Weiss is getting into Larry king territory here, for stating the obvious. If the projo guy doens't have a denial piece from Hurley tomorrow -- like kmac's with our guy-- you have to think Hurley will at least interview soon in DC. If they don't like Amaker and Bennett from ST.M isn't interested, Hurley could find himself at the front of the line.

Starting to look like to me a classic situation of "risk vs. reward".
Risks:
Do you want to be the guy to follow JTIII and all that entails? Do you want to risk being the next Craig E? Can you turn around the program in a reasonable amount of time? Can you establish recruiting inroads to top local prospectus athletes? Can you negotiate your autonomy in running this program? Can you work with a fan base whose expectations are for immediate improvements and "results"?
Rewards:
Access to higher profile players to bring potential success. Financial Career advancement Success equates to long term employment. Fame. Success leads to master of one's own destiny.
