Agree MQ is a easily as hot as us in the league, and even the win we got over them we kind of stole it at the end. Also Rutgers beat Illinois. That's 13 losses for them and 8-10. See ya.

Hall with a big comeback looks like they are going to take Butler down on Senior day in Indy....
So what does this mean do the Friars end up with the Bluejays in their first game?
3 hottest teams in the league right now are Friars, Pirates, Golden Eagles

Great to be in the conversation every year with Big Ed at the helm.

NEW YORK — Streaking Providence is headed to the postseason with a very large chip on its shoulder.
The Friars won their sixth straight Big East game — the program’s hottest stretch since 2004 — by overwhelming St. John’s for much of the game and then hanging on for an 86-75 win on Saturday at Madison Square Garden.
Picked ninth in the preseason coaches poll, Friars (20-11, 10-8 Big East) are heading to this week’s conference tournament as the third seed. That should be enough to lock in a school-record fourth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament, something that didn’t appear possible when both Kris Dunn and Ben Bentil left for the NBA last spring.
The Friars will begin Big East tourney play on Thursday at 9:30 p.m. against sixth-seeded Creighton. Even with a loss the surprising Friars appear destined to have their name called on Selection Sunday.
“We’re playing well,” PC coach Ed Cooley said. “We’re sharing the ball and moving the ball. It’s a credit to the team’s toughness and buying into roles over the last month. Five of our top eight guys are in their first year with us so it took some time to build that synergy and chemistry, but I couldn't be more proud of this group.”
Instead of Dunn or Bentil leading the charge, the Friars equaled last year’s 10 Big East wins with a well-balanced team approach. A great example came on Saturday. With leading scorer Rodney Bullock in foul trouble, Isaiah Jackson used his size advantage to ravage the Red Storm in the lane for 18 points. Alpha Diallo and Jalen Lindsey added 17 each and Kyron Cartwright filled the stat sheet with eight points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
“In all honesty all we talked about all year is we were tired of people talking about Ben and Kris,” Cooley said. “We miss them. We wish they were in the locker room but this is someone else’s opportunity to put their stamp on our program.”
The Friars grabbed hold of the game early. The first half played out smoothly with the notable exception of trouble at the foul line. The game was called tightly (27 fouls in the half) and that led to a parade to the free-throw line for both teams. The Friars were 8 of 15, while the Red Storm converted 16 of 21.
The story of the half, however, was PC’s defense. The Friars held St. John’s to 19-percent shooting (4 of 21). Shamorie Ponds (29 points) and Bashir Ahmed
(18) scored two hoops apiece while the rest of the team was 0-for-9. The Friars were up, 25-15, after 12 minutes and led, 37-25, at the half.
The Red Storm scored the first two field goals of the second half to make it 37-29 and when Bullock was whistled for his fourth foul at the 17:27 mark the Friars had reason to fret. But Providence scored eight of the next 10 points with Emmitt Holt hitting a 3-pointer to highlight the run and a 45-31 lead. Jackson continually overpowered his defender and feasted on strong drives to the rim as PC tallied 42 points in the paint.
“I don’t really focus on the offensive end,” Jackson said. “I tend to get my energy from playing defense and that sparks my offense.”
PC led by double digits from the 15:42 mark to when just 62 seconds were left. By then Ponds was driving to the hoop with ease and the Friars kept backing off. The lead was 78-71 with 50 seconds left but that’s when the Friars finally wiped out some horrific foul shooting (12-for-27 start) and made 8 of 8 in the final 33 seconds.
St. John’s (13-18, 7-11) managed just six assists to PC’s 18 and was out-rebounded, 44-34.
“That was pretty brutal,” said St. John's coach Chris Mullin. “We had a horrible sleep-walking performance but we do have a game on Wednesday [against Georgetown]. That’s the good thing.”
“I couldn’t be more proud of this group,” Cooley said. “In the preseason everyone wanted to talk about Ben, Kris and Junior [Lomomba], but we gave other kids an opportunity to grow and develop. It took a little longer than we wanted but we’re here. I think we’re in a decent spot right now and I’m just proud of our organization and what these kids have done.”
