I'm sorry but I'm not liking the fact that Cooley has been out of the country the past couple of summers and we are missing guys that could help us. Cincy isn't a bad program but they don't play a very entertaining brand of basketball. They muck it up and first one to 50 wins. Losing Washington hurts. We have all of the playing time that guys could want yet we can't seem to land any of our main targets. While I do think some of the guys that we landed are solid I don't think we have a difference maker in the group either. Hopefully I'm wrong. This staff knew that Owens may have issues getting into school. Look at the kids twitter account. This isn't to judge him but he doesn't seem to be very serious about his academics and doing whats needed to become a successful student athlete. I had a friend who played for FSU a few years ago by the name of Derwin Kitchen. He had some learning problems but this guy grinded his butt off to make sure he could get into school. He ended up having a very good career at FSU and is having a good career in Europe now but he worked hard in the classroom. We spent a whole year recruiting Abu, Terrell, Chuckwu, Joseph, and Lindsey and now the only thing we have to show is Lindsey. Bentil was a great fall back but that recovery is looking like an outlier. I haven't seen us mentioned at all this summer with any recruits and I'm sure that we will get someone but this program has been too solid to be getting plan B and C guys. If we are going to take the next step we need to recruit better and we need our HC to be here steering the ship.

I think the larger problem is that PC is still in need of players in June when Cooley goes to his USA duties.

I've pointed this out before but there hasn't been any great benefit to coaching the USA teams. McKillop at Davidson hasn't seen a difference in the type of recruit he gets and he coached with the USA teams for several summers and this was after having Steph Curry.

Just a guess, but could this be vacation time for Cooley?

Just a guess, but could this be vacation time for Cooley? Not sure I get this post. He is in Greece coaching games and practices. His family isn't with him, as far as I know. He and his family took a brief vacation shortly after the NCAA Tournament ended.

So let me put this harsher than I actually mean it: So, Cooley was on PC's dime in Greece at a time when the school lost out on a key recruit? (Please don't give the line that the U19 team thingy was scheduled way in advance).

Probably on US basketballs dime if that helps you. Perhaps he knew the decision before he left. quote author=" TheInfoMan" source="/post/46523/thread" timestamp="1435793202"] Not sure I get this post. He is in Greece coaching games and practices. I normally like what you post, but this time I don't agree with you. It doesn't matter to me whose dime he is on. The problem is when he is not at home things aren't being done.

There are things to snitch about, but the U.S. Coaching gig should not be one of them. The type of players we need/want should respect that.
Look at Coach K and his resume. Nobody knocks him for the time he spends and has spent with the program. I think it's part of what makes him great; It's part of what has made him a legend.

You make a committment to the National Team, everyone on this board thought that was a great thing. Then PC leaves and Coach should do what? Leave the team I suppose. After that he can sell loyalty to everyone. Once again, we have 11 players so this is not Keno Davis trying to get enough players in August to field a team. I don't really care if you agree with any of my posts. Recruiting has slowed down, none of us know exactly why but Coach not working hard or suddenly getting a big head are not the reasons. Fifi has not been a great recruiter. Don't think we fire him at this point. Coach hired Battle, retained Sham and continues to fly all over the country personally recruiting. My guess is PC is working out how to proceed going forward and I think we get back on track. IMO we have a good roster for this year...not final 4 good but NCAA good. The actual games will determine that. Writing about a recruiting slow down can make for interesting discussion if there is actual content, comparative data etc. Right now we have descended into the realm of gossip and character assasination. Coach did pretty well 2 years ago with 7 players. 11 should not be a problem. If we get to the November signing period with no one signed for 2016 then we can all worry.

But just one thing. I think we should top referring to Paschal Chukwu as PC. There is nothing Providence College about him anymore. PIZZA, SODA, GRINDERS!!!
