Let the hype begin... 20. Providence Friars Perhaps this is too high. This is a team, after all, that is losing its leading scorer (LaDontae Henton) from a season ago, who took nearly 30 percent of the Friars' shots and lacks an obvious replacement. Still, we like the Friars' roster, particularly its Georgetown-esque group of nascent sophomores. Most of all, we like that Kris Dunn -- who posted a nation's best assist on exactly half of his possessions (!) in his first season after long strings of injuries -- seems intent on destroying any usurper who fancies himself the best guard in the country. For more on how the Friars will look in 2015-16, check out Providence's returning players and incoming recruits Insider and ESPN RecruitingNation's class rankings. espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/12788000/kentucky-wildcats-stay-atop-revised-way-too-early-top-25

Hype indeed - this IS interesting and a good start for Kris Dunn even as we know many questions remain...hey Cooley has elevated this program from obscurity toi where we are getting 'respect' and certainly national attention so we take it...

Its not too high. Young players get better. We have many young players who will be better, and some of them will be much better.

I don't think it is too high either. Guys are going to be forced to step up next year and although it may be difficult to replace Henton's production with one guy I could easily see a couple guys bump up their scoring averages by 5 or 6 points. Plus we have a solid crop of recruits and there is always someone who turns out to be better than initially thought. Bentil played well down the stretch last year, Lindsey started to show something the last couple of games and Chuckwu seemed to get better every game. With the shooters we have coming in Cooley may choose to spread the floor and run more pick and rolls for Dunn. This team could be really dangerous if guys are ready to go.

Great getting this pub early. Has to help with recruiting. "Wanna play for Ed Cooley and the # 20 PC Friars young man?"

We were not young last year as Coach mentioned occasionally, but we will be young this coming year.
I think Ottovon and Brown have a point about our kids getting better...why not WTM?
Well I will tell you Why Not....if Sham leaves all bets are off.
And damnit don't be ashamed to lap up our pre-season prominence as a result of Kris returning.
Think of it this way....it gives our young guys an extra incentive to improve their game over the Summer to earn PT on a ranked team.
You score the basket and Kris gives the rock to you again...you piZZ your pants and he doesn't.

Hopefully this sort of attention coupled with the example that Dunn is setting (an AA who is dedicating himself to getting better in the off-season)serves as real motivation for the younger guys over the coming months.

I wish some of the other preseason polls felt the same way. NBC Sport's way-too-early preseason didn't list us among 39 teams, Sporting News didn't list us, and Yahoo Sports the same, among 36 teams listed. Those are the only other post draft deadline preseasons I've seen so far. But, ESPN is the highest profile anyway I believe, and I like what it had to say. Cooley will have them playing better then some think, and hopefully as well, at least, as ESPN thinks. He likes our sophs, and there's the key sure enough. Good to see! Maybe this will be the year we hang out in the polls all year for a change.

I thought ESPN was anti BE...
Disagree dex....next year's success will be based on the improvement of the bigs.....will be a bonus if the guards get there...

Dex put your reading glasses on man - all I said was hype indeed (nothing wrong with hype, eh?) and questions remain...we are largely untested and filled with 6 new players (if Owens can go) + Bullock.
But it is way too early to be drilling down on all that anyway - the pub is great stuff as I clearly stated for crispi sakes man.

WTM....if the sophs don't man-up this team ain't top 40. My arse knows that lad.
The Friar Icemen were pre-season No. 1 Hockey east and No. 2 in the USA
While taking it with a grain of salt, hockey fans of the Friars embraced it.
Well all except a few like the friarman.

predictable and immature

We need that kid Owens...the frontcourt needs to play at BE level naturally
and if they do, we are still screwed if a couple of Guards don't step up to handle, penetrate and make shots with Kris.
If I am so mis-guided, why did you bash every guard not named Dunn last year? Umm...because they couldn't handle? Couldn't shoot? wouldn't shoot? Wouldn't Penetrate?
C'mon man don't waste our time

....yet we still made the dance...my definition of success....
..without a 5th year transfer were fooling ourselves if we think 2 freshmen guards are going to lead us to the promised land....and God along with My God himself aren't going to get chambers and Albert there...
